For the purposes of discussion, I will declare his middle aged era to begin with his first drop to welterweight. Since that time, 7 of his last 11 fights have ended in a violent finish. He was on the receiving end of some of them, but he was a participant in the bloodbath nonetheless.

He used to be criticized for being "boring" and "elusive" back when he was winning. He gave up that successful style to bring his fans the CTE and blood they crave. He is sacrificing his body for your entertainment and I am honored to witness it. He has only had one boring fight in this timespan (against Anders) and his ko's are epic highlights (on either end).

Machida looked like near-prime there, i guess old ass uncle Chael help but still, off-USADA Machida has room for a couple fun fights more.

Dude had no respect for Chael, just went a him, fun as fuck fight.

Why would any aging fighter want to be clean is beyond me. It makes no sense in a brutal sport like MMA not to be on TRT and other safe PEDs. This isnt 1975 with black market steroids.

It helps to take a step down in competition. The Mousasi rematch is probably next on the table, but their careers are in different places now. I’d still watch and expect a Mousasi win. Lyoto struggled against Carvalho, still Lyoto is one of my favorites and it’s nice to see him go on a run for the first time in many years.

He hasn’t had a 3 fight win streak since being undefeated and now he’s at 4.

Damn right!
I always thought he'd stay undefeated for much longer if he never abandoned his cautious style. But cautious or not, I always loved watching him perform. One wrong move against Machida and you could end up on his highlight reel. Always had mad respect for every opponent tho. True master, warrior and gentleman.
