I went to Long Island for a local jiu-jitsu tournament (TapCancerOut), got my ass kicked by a wrestling head coach (purple belt level) but met former UFC champion Matt Serra.

Most people just treated him like a local jiu-jitsu coach because they're from Long Island and see him very often but to me it was a big deal because I traveled from Jersey.

He's pretty cool and humble.

Would love to train with Matt Serra... very knowledge and old school, no fluffy Jiujitsu...none of this bara bola to neck crank booty scotty shit ...

Congrats on meeting him and competing for a good cause..

FUCK cancer...my Fiancee and mother of my two children had surgery last Christmas to deall with a tumor on her kidney... So far a year later all good and her Kidney is operating at 96% ..

Its happening to younger people more often now too...always keep your health up

You're about Serra's height. Impressive.
Did you win the tournament?

That is hella awesome!

I trained at Ray Longo's gym so I'd go to Matt Serra's gym for BJJ every now and then. This was only like a a couple years after he lost the title, and yeah, he was pretty much just a normal guy.

I suppose now he is more famous, but BJJ is a small community, so everyone on Long Island is familiar with him.
