or being KO flat, i think he is thinking that for his selling image, health and legacy it's better to surrender (tape out) than being taken out cold, and i understand that.

Aldo unconcious on the floor will stay forever in people mind. Same goes with Silva, etc etc

People can say you have a lack of heart, but what is the meaning to pass out when you know you can't get out of a submission? Look tough? you just look dumb and dead after that.

It's better to be seen as a "coward" by a small portion of fans than a dead body on the mat of the octogon in the eyes of the world.

Only idiots doesn’t tap out when locked into choke, whats the point of being passed out on stinky, bloody mat? Machida got derpfaced by Jones only because of his ancient warrior code. So definitely agree that tapping out when you’re done is best option, it doesn’t show your lack of heart, but lack of skills, that can be improved, however your blood circulation in head cannot

No because you went out on your shield and not tapping to chokes shows more toughness than tapping to it. One you gave up while conscious. Other you fought until you lost consciousness. Big difference, and that is why even though fighters will say they won't tap, they still tap before going out. Going out by not tapping is not the same as going out by KO. Because with the choke you have the option to give up and you didn't take it.

Most fighters get praised for not tapping because it shows their warrior spirit. That is why they call McGregor McTapper, they use him tapping to question his heart. He also said he wasn't going to tap again before Khabib fight.

I am glad you know Conor ao well, you must be very close with him

I give props to Machida for not tapping. He went out on his shield when he could've just tapped. He fought till he went out. You talk about warrior code, that pretty much explains it - he could've gave up and chose not to instead. Pretty much the warrior mentality. Everyone says they are not going to tap, very few actually don't tap.

I do agree more on tapping on potential permanent damage to bones considering the fight. Some fights may not be worth the permanent damage and long recovery time depending on the submission/damage. But from chokes, I feel you should fight it until you go out.

Are you new to mma? are you new to sherdog? are you new to life?

Do we need to see him shit his pantalones when nate walks in the conference room again?

Yea Mir said tapping was for pussies then tapped to strikes

Tapping prevents potential long term injuries, but shows that you can break and are capable of giving up. This is the more rational way to lose.

Not tapping can cause long term effects, but shows that you don't give up until the bitter end. This is arguably seen as the more respectable way to lose and definately more badass.

I don’t think people who participate or compete in combat sports really care either way. Some guys tap, some guys don’t. It’s not a warrior/not warrior thing.

Gaethje tapped, went out anyway.

It’s natural to tap if you feel like your chances are gone. Some guys never feel like their chances of escape are zero, so they try to escape until they fall asleep. Not a warrior thing. Only went out because they weren’t self aware or they’re stupid and then they get props for it. Nah. If you have no chance to escape, tapping is what you should do.

He had no problems tapping against Rockhold.

I think it's stupid not to tap. Strikes or submission it doesn't matter if it's over it's over.

That is completely a warrior thing. That's pretty much Spartan warrior code to go out on your shield. What you describe basically is describing warrior mentality. By choosing not to give up vs choosing to give up. Gaethje went out but still tapped, he said he didn't want to. So it just shows that a lot of people will say they won't tap. But when they are in the position where they feel like they are dying they chose to quit. That's what it feels like when you don't tap to a choke. That's why some people tap frantically, because they feel like they are dying.

It shows more toughness? being choed out doesnt hurt. It doesnt take any toughness. Not tapping to an armlock would be toughness. Not tapping to a choke makes you end up unconcious, looking like a loser.

Different incentives to tap on chokes that cut off circulation to your brain versus those that leave you unable to breathe.

It was a neck crank, not a choke!!
It was just a forearm slightly applying pressure trying to go for a choke and conor tapped like a lil girl as soon as khabibs fore arm was placed on his chin.
