Mayonnaise:Eat it!

I pretty much avoid mayo on general principal for a long ass time now. But, really, why am I avoiding it? Real mayo is made from egg yolks, olive oil and a tiny bit of lemon juice, salt and pepper. None of those things are really bad for me, in fact, they're actually quite healthy.

Now, how should I end up using this stuff? I'll probably end up making it from scratch myself when I get back to my place, but I have no idea what to put it on. I was thinking of adding a bit of garlic and using it as a type of dip for vegetables, and of course sandwiches (which I rarely ever eat). Any other ideas?
 
i'd be all about mayo but i don't ever had bread in my house so yeah.

you could mix it in your tuna with mustard though.
 
Well it is very high in calories.....you can a lot of calories easily with it.
 
I love it, and refuse to eliminate it from my diet. I don't use shitloads of it, and I roll with the light stuff too.
 
canned salmon, chicken, and tuna. I know some people spread a bit on salmon filets to keep them from drying out while cooking.

SmartBalance makes a mayonnaise that I assume is healthier than the major brands.

If you are bulking, I say go for it. If your cutting, it could work if you are keto-cycling or something. (Course, who wants Mayonnaise without carbs?)
 
Mayo to me is the most disgusting thing on the planet and I get grossed the fuck out if I see somebody else eating the shit.

Love teh Mayo! Yea it's high in fat, but it's Poly-unsaturated fat which tends to lower cholesterol levels.

I usually switch it up with Hummus & Avocado for spreading and vegetable dips.

Whoever condemns all fats as "bad" ..need to educate themselves on Hydrogenation, and Trans fats vs good fats like Unsaturated fats, Poly-unsaturated, omega-3, etc..

Really any way you slice it Mayo isn't optimal by any means for serious eating. Even in bulking Mayo just adds a shit load of useless calories...dirty bulking like that isn't the ideal way to go by any means...just adding fat.

Vast majority of people are working out for mostly vanity reasons....You should be staying pretty lean for the most part and avoiding a dirty bulk at all times.

That said I love Mayo and I envy every person that hates it. :mad:
 
I eat Mayo everyday but just use it in moderation. I always felt it got a bad rap, your fine as long as you don't slather the stuff on.

This isn't a forum that caters to the "vast majority of people." In fact, the "vast majority of people" eat McDonald's and sit on their ass watching TV for hours on end waiting for the day that coronary blockage gets big enough to end it all. This is a forum that caters to people who have athletic endeavours, specifically in the MMA realm.

With that in mind, mayonnaise is perfectly fine. Fat is fine. It's actually quite healthy because it's both vitamin and protein rich on top of being a source of healthy fats (polyunsaturated, monounsaturated). I never advocated eating it straight outta the food processor with a spoon, but using it sparingly as a flavoring additive to other foods within the scheme of a balanced diet will yield both performance and taste positive results.
 
chicken salad is good, get some celery, boiled potatoes, carrots, onions, watever you want and then mix it all up with some mayo, salt and pepper, I go with some cayenne paper too, good eatin.

and salsa rules over the entire condiment family with an iron fist.
i never really knew that was what was in mayo. i always looked at it in the same category as butter and margerine. let us know how the homemade mayo goes. one thing i know mayo is good for is making salmon cakes. i make them with canned salmon all the time, but use egg whites instead of mayo.

Well, I've made homemade mayo before, but that was in High School chem class. Emulsifiers anyone?

It ends up tasting very different and much better than the store bought crap. I plan on making a aioli with some garlic and try to mix it together with some tuna or chicken to make some "salads."
 
A little mayo goes a long way.

It definitely makes my egg sandwiches taste better.

I usually buy the Trader Joe brands since I can actually understand the ingredients they use.
 
Commerical brands almost always use soybean oil as a base... I should make the stuff at home too. I've been using extra virgin olive oil in its place for canned tuna, ever since I decided to avoid soybean products that aren't fermented. Olive oil doesn't really cut it, though.
