Matt Hughes vs Ben Askren

Askren would toy with Hughes. I have Askren beating Hughes in his prime as well but a much closer fight than now obviously.
 
If Hughes or Liddell want to return they should do it in Bellator.

I don't know who Hughes should fight, but definitely not Askren.
 
Funky Ben is bigger. He definitely wins now but in PvP it's pretty interesting but that size difference makes me lean towards Ben. But Hughes is fuckin' Hughes. That's an awesome fantasy match up.
 
Interesting fight if Hughes was in his prime. Very similar fighters, but Hughes favoured the stand-up a bit more.

Would say Askren by decision, or Hughes by submission.
 
Matt was great in his time but rarely if ever faced wrestlers with a pedigree like Ben. Now its no contest and Ben would mop the floor with Matt imo. Prime I would still lean Ben just a little due to wrestling being Matts advantage in the cage in many of his fights. But interesting prime discussion
 
K1 Hughes is virtually unstoppable.

Woodley spanks either of them handily.
 
Hughes got ghosted by Josh Koscheck like 6 years ago, Askrack by whatever he wants.

What size difference? He wrestled 163 at the olympics and has love handles at 170.

Prime Hughes was a beast and would win in my opinion. Today's Hughes should stay retired.

Can't compare the 2. Askren has never competed against a Top 10 opponent. So it's impossible to judge.
 
Askren is grossly overrated here but he is a terrible matchup for a prime Hughes. Matt isn't a big striking threat and relies on primarily grappling.

I'm still laughing at the people saying Askren beating Woodley. Woodley would crush him. Watch the Santos fight to see Askren get repeatedly stuffed and ragdolled.

Let's see Askren beat a top 50 opponent first before we talk about his UFC title aspirations
 
Prime Hughes absolutely smashes Askren. Who the hell has Askren even beat that's close to Hughes competition? Lima? Amoussou? Heiron? Thompson? Good? Honestly is this even a legit question?

Hughes beat Newton, Trigg, Sakurai, Sherk, Penn, Lytle, GSP....all of those are better wins.
