When you guys mat out your walls in your mma gyms, how do you attach the mats to the wall?
ive heard some people attach wood panels to the wall but how? and how do you attach the mats to the wood?

any and all ideas welcome
got a small venue and want to matt out the wall

I imagine that you need to mount a wood fram to the walls. So you would need to anchor those to the studs before you put velcro on them. If you have cement walls it is going to get trickier I would think. You can anchor int cement bu it is a real hassle.

Liquid nails is too messy and really not that great anyway. Might as well do it the right way.

Google "Wall Pads"

There are special mats that are used for walls that have a wood backing.

You can also use the folding mats that have velcro ends and attach them to the wall with velcro.

Depends on what kind of mats you are going to put up.
I think the Zebra mats, have some kind of " wing " for the velcro, right? U could staple (big stapes) the wing onto the wall. Then, just keep on going in that pattern.
Now, if it's brick wall, you are going to have to screw it in, u can nail it, but if u want to move out one day, it will be a pain to get it out.

For matting the wall there are either two simple solutions. You can either use regular mats you would on the floor and attach with an adhesive such as contact cement or mat tape (double sided type)

or you can purchase wall mats such as these (Zebra MMA and Martial Arts Wall Pads)
To attach these you will need to also purchase the aluminum channels which essentially is two aluminum rails that you drill into the studs in your wall, then put the wall mat then slid the additional rail on top to lock it in.

It depends on the type of mat your using and the wall its going on. I wouldn't put mats directly against drywall, unless you don't mind repairing drywall when you take it down.

I added some concrete anchors to the mats at my last gym, but that wall was hollow brick. We put the anchors right through the seams on the mats, but they were pretty durable.

We bought the wall mats like elementary schools hang in gyms behind basketball hoops. We had them sized specifically to fit our space. The come already attached to a board and you simply have to attach the board to the wall. We mounted a wood frame around the room and attached them to that. It works perfectly.
