Masvidals underrated grappling showed against Maia

The extent of Jorges grappling game is his defensive BJJ. Thoughtout his career people were trying to take him down . The thing is Damian has never been known for his great takedown game nor was he in his prime when they fought.

In one of his interviews, maybe before Colby or after , I remember Jorge saying he wished he had trained more wrestling growing up

I pray we are blessed with another Maia

His work is beautiful.

Still one of my favorite sub sequences of all time. Poetry in motion.

It's like art.

Maia blessed Sonnen that night. That triangle will live on forever.

Masvidal isn't one of those dudes with 0 ground game who got by fighting strikers his whole career. He's tough to hold down and very hard to finish on the ground. He's not a Cyril Gane, the guy has a wealth of experience.

That being said I think Burns is way hungrier and far more focused than Mas right now. Burns has a super well rounded game and I think he'll take it but stylistically if Masvidal brings his A game he's got a great shot here

Yeah Burns is much tougher than Masvidal & won't mentally quit when things aren't going his way. I think Burns is a very easy pick in this fight.

The difference between Maia and Burns? Burns hits like a truck AND is a wizard on the ground. Masvidal is not winning Saturday.
Burns has a crazier, more frenetic grinding style of grappling than Maia, burns has thunderous hands and kicks when standing, and poses very serious submission threats when on the ground.

With all due respect to Maia, he was not dangerous on the feet.. PLUS he fought a prime Jorge. Do people think Masvidal can withstand that hard pace that Burns pushes for 3 hard rounds? I doubt Jorge makes it to round 3.
