I have read many good reviews for the fight-gear masters competition headgear and I was wondering if the title's version is equal, better, or worse?

I haven't tried the Title, but I do own the FightGear Master's Competition Headgear and I'm not a big fan. The protection is awesome, but the vision is bad and because it doesn't have a sweat absorbing lining, you get sweat in your eyes seemingly always at the wrong times. I'm use to wearing open face headgear (this is the one I normally use
adidas Amateur Boxing Competition Headgear ) so maybe it's just preference, but I do know that I get nailed a whole lot more when I wear the FightGear Master's.

hows the adidas amateur headguard? ive been looking for reviews but their no where to be found!

The Adidas headgear is AIBA approved, so that means it's going to offer up some pretty good protection. There's also Top Ten and right now the 1st gen leather head gear is on sale at Fighters-Inc. The only difference between first gen and second gen is that the second gen now has Velcro on top of the head instead of strings.

I just ordered a FightGear Master's Competition Headgear , but based on FirstDan's comments above I might not like it :-( Don't they use the EverCool lining they use in the Deluxe Fighting headgear?

BTW, as far as I know the masters headgear offers a lot more cushioning (thicker padding, more coverage, etc) than the regular competition headgears mentioned above. The selling point of the Adidas seems to be the fact that it is light not that it is 'protective', but then again avoiding punches is your best protection :-) Only thing is when you are training you are testing new things and not always can you avoid everything.

BTW, I found these headgear reviews, which seem very good

That just means it's a competition headguard, and competition headguards arent meant to be that protective. More lightweight. Same with the top ten headguard.

I am pretty sure the masters headgear is just leather inside, from the picture I saw anyway and it has the open ear.

I will give it a try, even though the open ear doesn't look good! I am considering getting into the Master's Division, so it might be a good idea to get used to the headgear :-) Up until now I have been using a headgear with the nose bar, which protects a lot but makes it harder to see/slip certain punches.

I will eventually order a Winning FG 2900 for training though

Man, I hope they don't require Master's Competition headgear for Master's division at non-Ringside events. I have 2 pairs of headgear (1 training, 1 competition) that I've had for like 7 or 8 years that I actually don't hate. Not looking forward to adjusting to new headgear. In general, I absolutely hate wearing headgear altogether, hence the apprehension to change.

BTW GHVA - i'm in the process of getting geared up for Master's Division myself. I'm having some growing pains making the transition from muay thai. Hadn't stepped foot in a boxing gym in 5 years before last week (used to train muay thai & boxing concurrently prior to that). Looking to compete maybe Feb of next year.

Thats cool man! I am just getting started on the path. I think it should take a year for me to be ready. I have been boxing for around 7 months now, but just recently decided to pursue the sport competitively.

About the headgears, it is my understanding that you can wear any USA Boxing approved headgear for the Master's Events - even at the Ringside events. I chose the Masters headgear because it seems to offer more protection.

Good luck with the training! I'm hoping to feel more comfortable with the adjustments in a few months. Was getting ready for a competition before I got sick, very weird being a total noob all over again.

That's a relief about the headgear. My competition headgear is an old fightgear with black flames on red. But I may still need to invest in a blue headgear to have a back up. :)

No, AIBA has higher standards. I have the Top Ten Avant Garde head gear and, as a 140 pounder, can take shots from guys that are 100lbs heavier than me. I've also been punched in the face with AIBA competition gloves and they felt like pillows.

I don't know what the regulations are for head gear in the master's division, but you guys may also want to check out Rival's D3O head gear. Someone here posted a review and it was very favorable.

I personally really like it. Depends on your preferences and what you'll be using it for. It's great for light/medium sparring or obviously as a competition headgear. Super light weight, not bulky, doesn't shift on me, great lining that absorbs sweat, velcro chin strap so it's easy on/off, great vision because it's open face, and you won't even notice you have it on.

That being said, it doesn't absorb as much punishment as say a training headgear, so if you're new to boxing you're probably going to eat a lot of shots, so I'd recommend a different headgear to start with. If you're planning on using it for hard sparring, I'd look elsewhere as well. If you're prone to getting popped in the nose, well you get the idea...

It's actually leather inside. A word of warning though, me and a few of my buddies had issues with the color on the inside fading after just a few sessions. Ringside took care of it though, and it may not be an issue now. Other's I know had no issues so it could be isolated, just keep an eye out for it.

Completely agree. I rotate between two headgear for that exact reason.

Funny, I work out with that guy every once in awhile. Good kid.
I agree with his assessment on the Master's, Adidas, and the FG-2900. I don't own any of the others in the review so I couldn't verify what he said about those. I can say that when I spar him and he wears the d3o it doesn't give great nose protection compared to say the Master's or the FG-2900.

From what I remember you had to use Master's headgear in the Master's division at Ringside events (that's why I bought it in the first place). I just looked it up to be sure: http://www.ringside.com/media/tournament/2012_rwc_application_master2.pdf

It states on page two:
Master Boxers must provide their own Masters-Approved headgear.
No other headgear is acceptable. Gloves will be provided at the gloving table.

So it does not need to be the Ringside headgear I guess, since Title also carries a Master's Approved headgear, but it MUST be a master's headgear...

The USA Boxing reqs ask for any USA Boxing approved headgear in the Master's Division.

Good to know. Doesn't look like I made a very bad decision after all, since I am looking for a decently padded headgear....
