As Sherdog's official poker representative (unless someone else cashed at the WSOP this year)bork1}, I thought there should be a thread about this.

Possibly the biggest scandal in poker history is currently being investigated at The Stones Gambling Hall in California. Yes, bigger than Full Tilt lending out player funds, Ultimate Bet Superuser, sharing Isildur's hand histories, Alec Torelli's big chips, Freddy Deeb going south on HSP, Jeff Lisandro's ante, all of it.

So Stones runs a live stream cash game that plays 1/3 and 5/5, usually 1 or 2 straddles. And they have 1 player who NEVER loses. Guy is like 67 for 69 in live streamed cash games. Up 250k in under 3 years. His name is Mike "The God" Postle.

The live stream has resorted to creating memes of him as Jesus and a God and a poker wizard to put on the screen every time he inexplicably rakes in a monster in an impossible spot. If you're a competent no limit hold em player you can watch one hand and know that he can't possibly achieve his results with his level of poker knowledge and ability. In reality, no human being could. Or even a bot designed to beat humans at poker. You couldn't possibly achieve his results without knowing the cards. His lack of ability is almost irrelevant.

Last month, I believe, an employee at the casino who worked as a commentator for several of the live streams called him out for cheating and posted about 10 suspicious hands on Twitter. Since then many members of the poker community have gone into an extensive investigation of his playing history. The official investigation was allegedly conducted by Stones, and found nothing suspicious, before being concluded after a few days. They have since promised to re-launch a more thorough investigation.

In the meantime, poker players have compiled all of Postle's results from the live stream. They've collected first hand accounts from players in the games, players who have played with Postle before, etc. They've spoken to experts on poker live streaming and RFID(card reading) software. Some have dedicated their streaming channels to watching particular hands and streams that Postle has played. One in particular, Joey Ingram, has dedicated his channel to watching every single second of Mike Postle on stream. He has streamed 5+ hours of Postle playing every day this week. Doug Polk is also doing more formatted videos on his channel every day, including a 2-hour live stream with Ingram.

The leading theories, and most probable explanations, are what make this one of the biggest scandals in gambling history, and likely the biggest in poker. It appears that Postle is working with at the very least the poker room manager in charge of the game and a member of the production staff. It is also possible that he is working with the entire production staff, as he has been linked to them through social media sites. And even deleted his Linkedin profile, that indicated he was involved in production of live streams.

The way it was executed is not as clear. He spends a lot of time looking down at his phone, keeps a couple random objects on the table, always wears a hat with brim curved and low. The leading theory here is actually bone conduction headphones sewed into his hat. This is supported by the fact that his hat looks stuffed when he's at the table vs not. And he holds his hands on his head like a quarterback listening for a play call on the road when he's about to make an unorthodox decision.

Here are some solid videos breaking it down:

Cliffs:

-Poker live stream with stakes of about 1k-3k hosted at Stones Gambling Hall
-Player wins EVERY time
-Keeps coming back to take money from same people while pretending to be friends
-Up about 250k in 3 years
-Appears to be working with members of casino staff and stream production staff
-They actually covered it on Sportscenter last night

UPDATE--1/13/2020:
Postle and The Stones Casino are being sued by the whistleblower, Veronica Brill, and 24 players who participated in the game for 10 million dollars.

This is the court filing:
https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:323fafc0-e583-4c19-91be-dc7d1610c53b

These are the allegations:
–1. Racketeering (violation of federal Racketeer Influence Corrupt Organization Act) – against Postle and all Does (generic reference to anyone else found to be involved)

–2. Fraud – against Postle and all Does

–3. Negligent misrepresentation – against all defendants

–4. Negligence per se (as causing damage to plaintiffs) – against Postle and all Does

–5. Unjust enrichment – against Postle

–6. Negligence – against Stones and Kuraitis

–7. Constructive fraud (via unfair methods) – against Stones

–8. Fraud – against Stones and Kuraitis

–9. Libel – against Stones

Current status of proceedings:

–A local process server tried to serve the defendant at his home on December 19, 22, 24, 29, and 30, and January 2.

–VerStandig spoke with William Portanova, who stated in October media interviews that he represented Postle. He said he would confer with his client, who he represented as a criminal defense attorney but not in the civil matter.

–Portanova then stopped responding to VerStandig.

–VerStandig personally tried to serve Postle at his California home on January 3. After eight minutes of knocking and ringing the doorbell, he returned to his car despite lights being on in the house, a car in the driveway, and noises heard in the house.

–VerStandig monitored the house from his car and saw a male appearing to be Postle in the house. After again knocking and receiving no answer, VerStandig placed the summons and complaint between the security door and front door.

Cliffs: Postle is dodging the summons

Lol:

Who cares if Full tilt lends our player funds? If they’re sponsored, it makes perfect sense.

Since he's a god he's all knowing. That's how he wins.

Y'all got anymore of them pinochle updates or nah??

ya was watching this earlier.

I never understand these cheats who are so greedy they have to win every time and every hand. I mean just play smart and win slightly above average and don't feel you have to win every hand and no one would ever likely catch you.

Greed and ego are a helluva things.

I still think The Russ Hamilton Ultimate Bet Scandal is bigger and a worse example of greed.

Guy was living on a beach and destroying the online poker game before anyone was aware of all the cheating and his ego of wanting to take down every hand exposed him because he refused to fold a winner he should have folded but called light with while taunting the other player basically signalling he had to know what the hole cards were, which he did.

BTW TS, congrats on the cash. Which game and what position?

Fuck that. When did you cash?

I'm up probably 4300 in total earnings from tourneys and cash games

We should do a sherdogger cash game night at the Venetian on a weekday. See who's got the luck that night

Free coke and Jack and by coke I mean party favors

lol min-cashed in the 1500 Bounty. But got 3 bounties for 500 each. Also, plus 2k in the cash games for the week. Plus 4k for the 10-day trip.

And the reason this is bigger than Hamilton is because he is likely working with members of the casino staff as well as the stream production staff. This is a criminal conspiracy. And it compromises the integrity of both live play and streaming, as well as the particular casino.

But like you said, just crush the fuckin 5/5 game for 1k a couple times a week and call it a career. This fuckin guy runs his 3k stack up over 21k on a fuckin live stream. And he taunts people and laughs in their faces as he makes impossible calls and shoves. You gotta watch some of the hands.

And some of the anecdotal evidence is absolute gold. There's the poker manager guy jumping on commentary and justifying all of his plays, there's the regular commentators getting super uncomfortable when they to explain a play, there's his own brother doing guest commentary and telling a story about scamming people at their dad's roller rink growing up, and how "if there's an angle to be played, his brother will play it."

I wish I knew how to play poker .

How would they know what cards he was gonna get? Do they not shuffle the deck ? Wouldn’t it be easier to get caught on a live stream?

Remember the guy is blind as well

This particular scam would HAVE to be executed at a game either being streamed live, or recorded for tv. It relies on someone in the production staff having live access to all of the hole cards, and somehow transmitting them to the player.

image-10.jpeg

The RFID technology assigns a code to each card, which is read by a sensor in the table. The production staff gets the signal live, and the cards are displayed in the graphics.

hqdefault.jpg

To ensure that players don't have access to each other's cards, the stream is broadcast on a 30-minute delay. But the production staff has access to the cards in real time.

So the scam would be for a member of the production staff in the back room where the stream is being produced to see the cards and transmit the information to the player at the table during the hand. Basically allowing the player to have the graphics from that second image^^ in his head.

This is the leading theory on how it happened.

That’s crazy and like SVP said at the end of the video if he’s that good why wouldn’t he be winning the WSOP and playing the big games in Vegas ...

He prolly works for that casino and is winning so they don’t have to pay people out or something / making money for the casino . Production company prolly wanted a guy who could keep winning and bring in higher viewership ... like that jeopardy guy earlier this year

Ya that's why it's so big. It's about 99.9% that the production staff and members of the casino staff are involved. Casino wants the action, as it's a gambling hall. Which is basically just an extravagant poker room. Production staff wants the views. And the player was evidently a failed sports bettor and entrepreneur.

This is the room

Interesting. I had no idea they live streamed low level poker. And wtf did Freddy deeb do

wow that's pretty nuts

never learned how to play poker myself but always wanted to learn

Lol i was joking about High Stakes Poker. I think it was season 2. Sean Sheikan accused Deeb of going south, almost jokingly. "Going south" is taking money off the table without the knowledge of the other players. Usually when you're up big, and playing no limit, to remove the risk of losing that money back. But then Sheik saw Deeb getting wound up and started to seriously accuse him. Trolling, in reality. And other players started to jump in and ask if he really was. So Deeb stands up heated and yells "I'll play any of you heads up for any amount you can borrow". Shut that shit right down. An all-time gangster moment in poker.

But ya, low stakes live streaming is the direction poker broadcasting has gone, almost entirely. Several places like Stones run their smaller shows. Then if you remember J Carver(Jason Somerville), the original poker streamer with some of the biggest non-gaming live streams in Twitch history, now runs his own streaming company that runs games(Run It Up). And Live at The Bike is maybe the most popular poker broadcast going right now.

Ah ok, thanks man. I really miss online poker...I used to be very profitable. It's really ridiculous that you can gamble on anything online. ..horses. .fantasy...slots...casino games. ..sports...but not poker ,the one actual game of skill.

I did see that fan duel bought poker stars. Who knows maybe they'll find a way to legalize it like they did ff
