Saw on FB on Burton Richardson’s FB page ( famous JKD instructor and Bjj black belt under Egan Inoue ) that Marcelo Garcia was now living in Hawaii . Burton wrote “ life can throw great adversity at us. I have certainly had my share. But other positive events far outweigh any difficulties. Like this. Marcelo Garcia and family have moved to Hawaii permanently. They opted for a better quality of life, and for them, Hawail fits the bill. We've been talking about it for many years, and now it is a reality. I'm so happy that we will be able to spend a lot more time together, training and simply enjoying life. What a blessing.”
Wow . Good for Marcelo but does anybody know who is running MG school in NY? Diniz ? Is he chief instructor there now? And is Marcelo still uploading new stuff to MGA website ? This is huge news. I had heard Marcelo wasn’t happy in NY anymore .

Wow I've always associated Marcelo with NY. Feels strange to know he isn't there anymore. Anyway good for him, truly hope he can find some peace and happiness.

Yeah, Matheus is now the head instructor. All of the old instructors are still there, Paul, Scott, Joel, etc., so it really doesn't feel that different. Although it sucks to not have Marcelo around.

For all those using this as an opportunity to crap on NYC, you have no idea what you are talking about. Marcelo loves this place. So if you live in Texas, never been to NYC but hate it for some reason, then go start a thread in the War Room.

"They opted for a better quality of life,"

Begs the question of, why couldn't they get a better quality of life in Gotham City.

I know a woman that moved from Hawaii to Maine for a "better quality of life". I have a cousin that moved to NYC to work a dream job at the Museum of Natural History. There are a million reasons to prefer one place over another. The fact is, you have no idea why Marcelo left NYC.

An atavistic sense of regard for one's domus is understandable and natural.
But, that dog just don't hunt no more lol. Anyone still living in a city in the year of our Lord, MMXXII, is just torturing themselves.

This has nothing to do with why he left. Why would you speak from a position of complete ignorance?

It's why John Danaher and his team left. And from what I read it's why Garcia left as well. He wanted a better quality of life because NY sucks now. So why are you lying? Don't bother answering, I know it will be another worthless lie.

You misunderstand me, I hate this place.

I moved to New York for a job. Does that mean the place I left "sucks"? Does that mean the place I left contained "a bunch of insane authoritarians"? You'd have to be an idiot to draw conclusions like that. Marcelo never said things like that to me, and I never heard him say those things at the academy.

New York is great town, but if you prefer an equally expensive place but surrounded by nature and a slower pace, Hawaii is it.

Though few would admit it, I’m sure Danaher left NY because it would be disrespectful to Renzo to open a BJJ school under a different banner in the same city, plus it’s expensive rent. None of this means New York is bad.

If you’re struggling to make money, any major US city will suck.

Danaher is training and teaching out of the Renzo academy in Austin, bro.

Only Craig really broke free.

NY is trash.
