I've searched for info here and elsewhere on Maltodextrin. There are a few accounts of neg reactions to it regarding poor digestion, headaches etc.

It's the very first ingredient in my new GNC Mass XXX protein tub. I didn't think much about at the time but am now re-considering the high quantity of it in this product. Any thoughts / experience / advice?

Does it have Vin Diesel and/or Ice Cube on the package?

Kinda makes you wonder why you bought it, huh? If you can, take it back. If you can't, well, you're stuck with an ultra high carb (malto is darn near sugar), mediocre quality (yay soy!) protein blend.

in your opinion, malto/dexto should be avoided if you are on a cut right?

^Not sure what you mean exactly by "on a cut," but generally, if you're trying to lose BF or water weight, carbs like this should be the first thing to go.

Think he might be pointing out the fact it's a weight gainer, which people don't generally use when trying to drop weight. IE a ton of sugar/carbs is fine because it's gonna get you jacked.

That's exactly what I meant by on a cut.

It's genreally used as a cheap carb to bulk out products, and some people will react badly to it, friend of mine gets bad stomach pains while on it. Normally a good sign of a poor quality wait gainer imo.

there is no technical definition of weight gainer. it usually means protein powder with maltodextrin for extra calories.

it is just another refined carbohydrate. it is like sugar that just happens to not taste sweet. where do you want extra carbs from? pop, juice, chocolate, chips, weight gainer?

I don't know which one you are using but I'm using the newer version, GNC AMP Mass XXX and it is working great for me. No stomach problems whatsoever and I'm putting on size and strength.

No I don't have the AMP...just the mass xxx chocolate. Tastes not bad, mixes moderately well and the price was right.

Well I would suggest the AMP. If you are a creatine user it has three grams of creatine in one serving.

If it is adding extra protein and calories to your diet I'm sure it could help you gain weight. If you are trying to lose weight you want something without carbs.

This claim from the GNC website sounds ridiculous. "3 SETS + AMPLIFIED MASS XXX™ = 5 SETS " I'd be worried about products that tried to pass off that kind of stuff.

.

NEWSFLASH - There's nothing "amplified" about any of the amplified line. It's just overpriced. Stick to the original Mass XXX (even though it now only comes in chocolate and vanilla), because the "AMP" is just the same blend with 10g of creatine added, which isn't worth the extra money.

Same goes for the "wheybolic" and the "amplified 100% whey"...and yes the employees will push them on you, but they're no better than the original 100% whey.

If you want a better quality weight gainer, Universal's has a good blend.

And yes, ANY "weight gainer" should be avoided if you're "on a cut." Weight gainer = opposite of weight loss.

Maltodextrin is like pure sugar is handy for postwork meals. (I can't choke own oats PW, pre work out is fine) but the stuff is like

The AMP Mass is a better deal. It's not that much more, about five bucks, and I get my mass gainer and my creatine all in one. It would be a lot more expensive to buy those two seperatly. So yea the AMP Mass is a better deal.

Well maltodextrin is basically a carb no? Like a filler?

So far so good on the gut. Just pounded some after a long run and no issues. Though I usually take extra digestive enzyme tabs with protein (all meals actually). Compared to other meal replacement type supps I guess this xxx isn't much different. For the record I am trying to gain, I enjoy running and biking too much to put on any serious muscle from lifting. Couple that with the inability to digest food normally and I am stuck at 180lbs for life.
