Back in 1994, Magic: The Gathering printed “Invoke Prejudice,” a card that appears to depict a horde of hooded Klansmen. The card’s action, which allows a player to counter creatures of a different mana color, makes the implication even less subtle. Now, the game’s parent company, Wizards of the Coast, is removing the controversial card for good.

As global civil rights activism brings racism to the forefront, Magic: The Gathering is taking a hard look at its own history. Wizards of the Coast began by removing seven cards from play and from Gatherer, its official database.

“There's no place for racism in our game, nor anywhere else,” the company said Wednesday. “The events of the past weeks and the ongoing conversation about how we can better support people of color have caused us to examine ourselves, our actions, and our inactions.”

Wizards of the Coast began by removing “Invoke Prejudice,” “Cleanse,” “Stone-Throwing Devils,” “Pradesh Gypsies,” “Jihad,” “Imprison,” and “Crusade” from the game and from its official database of all Magic cards. But a Wednesday tweet indicates that this is just the beginning.

“We are starting a review of every card we have printed,” the official Twitter account shared. “This first pass isn't meant to be an exhaustive catalogue of every problematic card in Magic’s history, and we will continue to take actions on similar cards in the future.”
This is what happens when you appease a racist, radical leftist horde.

Pretty soon no ultimatum they can dream up is too unreasonable, and no fear that they may turns their ravenous hatred on you is unjustified. Gotta get ahead of it. Too bad. You already showed weakness, and the sharks smell the blood...
Responses on Twitter indicate that fans see Wizards’ announcement as a step in the right direction, but point out a more glaring problem in Magic: a lack of diversity among the staff. The blog post hints at further progress in its closing remark: “There's much more work to be done as we continue to make our games, communities, and company more inclusive.” I’ve reached out to Wizards of the Coast to see if a spokesperson can clarify further.

Fuck your gesture of understanding and empathy. You still have a job, bossman. It's not enough.

Probably shouldn't draw attention to themselves.
Admitting fault only riles the mob up.

Makes me a lil sad though. I loved that game when I was a kid.

Lol. Anyone remember when it was the right taking shots at M:tG for being 'satanic'?
How do these loons not see what they've become?

I still can't believe they havent gone against the Elder Scrolls Series for their obviously racist stats of black people(Called redguard race in the game).

The Redguard are a 100% stereotypical blacks....While the whites in the game except for the nords are more intelligent and more "sophisticated"

Let’s just change history. Hitler didn’t hate the Jews/gays (etc) let’s just say he hated people.

don’t fuck with history.

What about the wood twinks, they're cannibals?

This is what is going to get Trump re-elected!

You are entombing yourself in a partisan echo chamber if you can't step back, look at this, and realize how draconian this movement has become.

It's a game. You summon devils, demons, and other agents of evil, chaos, or destruction to your side in some decks. You cast enchantments that control creatures against their will. That's slavery. Now you can't do that? Cool, wipe those cards out. Hey, I noticed the cards where you "sacrifice" a creature still remain. Hmm, that's pretty Old Testament, isn't it?

It's insane because I remember when I was a kid the whackos were the crazy Christians. There were some kids in my town whose parents literally wouldn't let them play this card game because it had "witchcraft". Some were Mormon, some were Pentecostal, some were just your garden variety non-denominational revivalists. Yet I don't recall any of them or their parents demanding that Wizards of the Coast not be allowed to exist, or demanding for the company to change its demonic business. They didn't seek to intimidate businesses or lawmakers. They simply didn't buy the cards.

This radical new left is vastly more toxic and intolerant than even the batty Christians of my youth. It blows my mind. The moderates and the mainstream leftists seem willing to make a deal with this devil, because they calculate they'll get them what it wants, but I don't think they're wisely exploring the full repercussions of this Faustian deal.

If companies do this of their own accord, what is the issue?
If I want to continue to sell more of my 30 year old nerd game in 2020 and beyond to a diverse group of people, then taking a look at it every few years to make sure I don't have some offensive or out of fashion "Retarded ass goblin", or "Midget tranny Succubus" card in the rotation sounds like a pretty good business move.
You guys will cry about anything.
