Macklemore X Ryan Lewis

Hey guys, what do you think of Macklemore?

I was lurking on GameFAQs yesterday when someone brought up the fact that an unsigned underground rapper had a #1 single on the Billboard Charts. Thrift Shop being that single, I decided to give it a chance. I think the video makes the song 1000x better, but I really loved it. Especially since Wanz gave it a real Nate Dogg-esque feel and I always loved Nate Dogg's hooks.

Then I looked into his other songs and they are amazingly dope. Wings (a song about consumerism and them Air Jordans everyone thrists over), Same Love (the battle of homophobia in society and specifically in Hip-Hop) and Otherside (Mackle's battle with drugs and his savior that was rap) are all extremely touching. I really dig his style and his voice is easy on the ears.

He actually reminds me of a less douchey Atmosphere (although I do enjoy their music) and it's refreshing to hear some of his joints getting notoriety.

What say you good folks?

Thrift Shop is good for a laugh but it gets really thrashed on the radio

I think Same Love is a much better song

He's cool. If you take him seriously, it's your fault. Plus, he's a great success of not signing to a label and releasing and financing everything himself. You can't really say anything bad about that.

Plus, I like the hidden messages he has in his songs.

The Heist is a great album but my personal favorites are on The VS and the VS Redux, Irish Celebration remix is insanely good.

I'm a fan of the Raven Bowie bits as well, and there's some good stuff on Language of My World.

Wish people would go passed Thrift Shop (which is great) and explore the rest of his work, very good.

I like some of his music, but it isnt really my taste. Glad to see he's successful though. Otherside makes me tear a bit once in a while.

Skilled but I don't like the way he flows. I'm glad he's had success without signing to a label though, I think that's really cool.

Yeah there's something off about his flow, its not uniform to me and when he flips it it doesn't work right.
