It took a while for most of the MMA fans to warm up to the guy's unique style, but I was a fan from day 1. His run to the title had guys lookin absolutley ridiculous, and his style was effective long after he lost the title.

What was your first impressions of him and what are your favorite matches/ko's of his?

Unique style that might honestly be close to perfect when it comes to attacking without getting hit, his feints with his hips, arms, and legs were very effectivw along with his footwork. His fight with Thiago Silva made me a fan and I never left.

His fight with Shogun is one of the most technical displays of striking in MMA ever from both sides.

He showed Karate can be effective when adapted to MMA.

Stopped Sokodjou's run dead cold and made MMA forums implode for a day. Always loved Lyoto as a karate kid at heart, knew he was going to be champ after he spanked Tito. I think he would have been much more successful had he fought at MW his entire career as he was always a bit undersized, but that just shows how great his technical skill was that he took the belt in a division he was small in.
Had some amazing moments, sending Randy out on his shield is probably my favorite moment, but his shadow realming of Rashad has to be Sherdog's favorite moment due to it's historical significance.
Not many things made me smile as often in MMA as watching Lyoto bowing to lifeless bodies.

I was impressed that he knocked out Rich Franklin. Pretty sure the UFC was pissed about it since they were planning to build Ace up as a star.

Well they managed anyway til Anderson came in and took it all from him

Besides Anderson, my favorite fighter of all time… since around 2007-2008… met him a few times towards the end of his UFC run and became an even bigger fan…

initially I just enjoyed his style.. very unique… a decent percentage of fighters seem to have a cookie cutter style… watching Machida was exciting because never knew what he was going to do…
