Longest Possible Human Lifespan?

I wonder how responsible it is to go after a technology like this? When I think of no death I think of massive overpopulation. How could we counter the massive boom from an extra 40 years on the lifespan?

Well, it isn't, of course.
But that's never stopped humanity before.
Develop a technology, first. Think about the ramifications later.
That's the human way.

That's not really how memory formation works.

The global population is expected to stabilize in the next few decades and according to the low estimates, even start declining.

Aging population issues have to do with large, non-working unhealthy elderly. If an increase in lifespan comes with a commensurate increase in productive years, then a temporarily inverted population pyramid isn't that big of a deal.

Likewise, on a global scale, population growth and stability is really just a migration and economic equality issue.

Yeah when it turns out fucking was just a passing craze and people stop doing it, we'll level right off. More people to fuck+fertility drugs prolonging child-bearing years+sperm and egg donors making sex not even a requirement for kids = fewer people in what universe? Combine that with increased life expectancy and not only will the population grow, it will grow exponentially unless there are a few nuclear wars.

Would love to see some links on this if you get a chance, My last reading on this subject said otherwise....

Most parties agree that we will stabilize at 10 billion.

The issue with overpopulation is under-developed countries.

Industrialization = condoms and pill = smaller families

This is demonstrated over and over.

Once Africa and India get totally industrialized (give it 100 years), the growth problem is all but solved.

Personally, I was born in the highlands of Scotland in 1518. Eat that, Frenchie!

Even though we're really crowded around cities, I don't think we use up that much of the planet.

I could go on and on, for as much time I wanted to spend searching. Bottom line - all manner of living and nonliving resources are already being depleted by the human load we have now, to say nothing of increasing it.

The US started industrializing 130 years ago and we still have a population growth that is at an unsustainable clip all these years later.

I don't think it stops very soon after industrialization, as immigrant population flock and breed in these economic hotspots.

will check the links -thanks!

I think it is possible to live forever as long as the spirit exists. The problem would be improvement due to the fact you live a continuous rather than stages of life. Would it be better for some maybe but not for all. I think only the most mature and serious could withstand living forever while the rest would mentally fade while they still exist in torment due to certain aspects of how fast one can grasp knowledge.

I just don't want to outlive my kids.

^this
Not very many things scare the shit out of me, but the idea of this happening.

My mother out lived my brother. My sister has lupus and I'm probably going to die in the great war that will occur in the next few years.

Even with givin the choice to live up 120+ years, I wouldn't take it. Lifespans have been engineered through thousands upon thousands of years of evolution and adaptation. Our average life spans are not set because we choose to set them that way, rather it's set by nature and for a reason greater than we can comprehend. If you suddenly throw a wrench at these natural process it could have a major counter reaction that we may not expect.
