What are the differences between Kun Khmer training and muay thai training? I understand the fighting strategies are different because of the rules, but i'm asking about the training in particular

more or less the same really. a left hook is a left hook wether its boxing, muay thai, kun khmer, etc etc. Only so many things the body can do. The big debate is over who "invented" it. Khmer claim to have invented it, and thais claim to have invented it.

I used to train there in 2005 and 2007 we used to train on a rug it was brutal on your foot .

my toe always had the skin ripped off it.

It is pretty much the same thing just with different names for strikes.

i have no idea, my wife found it for me. i couldnt pronounce it if she told me lol

Interesting the who invented it debate still rages on since Muay Thai is a relatively new thing.I would assume the khmers influenced much older ancient battllefield arts like weapons, wrestling and some form of bare knuckle. We know the arts evolved far from those over time.

khmer kickboxing

Nice elbow finish. Cambodian vs thai fights commonly become a battle of knees, kicks vs punches and and elbows. Don't know why the thais don't utilise elbows and punches as much. Burmese prefer to punch too but rarely throw elbows

My son has started training Kun Khmer and its 90% the same a MT. The differences that I see is the KK guys use far more elbows and punches than the Thais do. The Thais have alot more clinch work as in KK the judges seem to seperate them far quicker. Watching MT fights it seems to be more of attrition thing where KK is a little more wild.
Also from a stance point of view the KK seem to hunch over a bit more.
The dude teaching it is a Cambodian guy who learnt it over there before the country turned to shit.
But one thing I will say is that MT or KK taught in Western Countries have a far better emphasis on boxing than you find in SE Asia.
But as usual, your mileage may vary.
