What I was impressed by Game Gear was it had some cartridge attachment that let it be a portable over the air TV. I would have wanted that if I had Game Gear.

I got a sweet deal when I got my Game Gear. I traded an Adam Sandler and a Pearl Jam CD to a friend for it. We were in the 8th grade (1993) and he didn't really like video games anymore. It had a few games with it too. I only had it for a few months though. I loaned it to another friend and he accidentally broke the screen. I was pissed.

The TV Tuner. I wanted that so bad but it was hard to find and expensive.

First was NES. Dad took me to Sears probably around summer of '87 and we got Mario/Duck Hunt and Metal Gear.
