After the hype has played down, and after the euphoria of Khabib & Tony has been flushed down the toilet (for the 5th time), let's take a moment to have a real close look at Zhang and Jedrzejczyk.

Arguably the best, most technical, most elite-level female fight that has ever taken place, in any genre, in the world of women's sports.

I have to admit, I didn't like Joanna Jedrzejczyk, at all, prior to this fight.
I was a huge Weili Zhang fan .

Leaving this fight, in retrospect, and after the euphoria has come down, so we can all evaluate with a sober mind, this was simply an incredible effort by both women.

Joanna is a warrior TO THE CORE. Both women are.

I don't think there are many men's fights who can compare, let alone women's.

I agree with the decision that Weili Zhang's retained her title. She was the aggressor in the end, and she was hungrier than Joanna. But Joanna was a Champion also.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk didn't "lose" that match. She lost absolutely nothing in this fight, and in fact she GAINED everything ... including, (I am sure) many additional fans and accolades that she may not have had before. I do believe she was "out pointed," but Joanna was NOT 'outgutted" ... they were BOTH Champions in that department.

I cannot detract from either fighter. They are both absolutely excellent and they both deserve our utmost respect.

I believe Wiley Zhang is the future; and I also believe Joanna Jedrzejczyk exhibited the recipe to unbalance this prediction :)

My hat will forever be off to these women, and my respect for their efforts and sacrifices will forever be theirs also.

Maybe my favorite female fight of all time that didn't end in a finish, but Valentina is more technical than both so by default her fight with Joanna was more technical

I dunno why it took this fight for people to see the obvious, that joanna is amazing. She always been.

Dont agree either was hungrier. It was equal efforts.
Zhang got the nod for just naturally being a harder hitter.

Only on Val's end, JJ got nothing going so we saw none of her technical abilities. Mainly because she got put on her back nonstop.

I agree with TS here, that fight showed what WMMA is capable of when you have two high level fighters matched up who stylistically work well together. The fight was flat out awesome.

The issue of course is that there just aren't that many women at this point anywhere near those levels. Both from a technical standpoint and in sheer toughness.

Joanna was competitive and tough but she took a lot of damage. I wouldn't say "out pointed". I would say a game Joanna was beat by a better and stronger Zhang.

There is a clear evolution
With time more women of this quality will arrive.

While I don't believe this was "the most technical, most elite-level female fight that has ever taken place," it certainly ranks up there with the best. Valentina vs. JJ was probably more technical and elite-level, but this one was far more entertaining and maintained sustained aggression by both fighters throughout the fight. They both deserve to be paid far more if they face off again.

Cannot say enough good things about this fight and both Women.

was like watching two war gods battle for supremacy and a winner being announced only because there could only be one.

In my eyes Joanna won but I also think Weili deserved to keep the title after her performance as well.

Did not envy the Judges at all.

Also we need more appreciation threads for this fight!! Fuck Bonar v Griffin this fight should be the example of what Mma is all about.

(I still love Bonar v Griffin )

Agree

Joanna's pre fight banter is awful, but her fights are actually fun.
Though, I thought it was kinda cool before Thug Rose lit her up.
Bit too excessive. Or a lot.

Zhang Weili is just so human. How could you not root for her? Innocent in a way. An innocent girl who can fuckin bang. no pun intended.

Yup, amazing fight. They went at each other with ferocity all five rounds.

Agreed!

I know this is cliché, but both women were winners. There is no possible way anyone, who truly enjoys fighting, can call either woman "the loser."

They both gave absolutely everything they had to give, and the clock ran out. They were both still willing to go to the end.

I understand why you say this.

My eyes had Joanna beginning to pull ahead ... but I think Weili sucked it up, and bit down harder on her mouthpiece ... and deserved to retain her title. The aftermath damage also showed Weili to have won the fight, physically.

Mentally and spiritually, both women are Champions to the core.

I actually didn't like Joanna very much going into this fight; however, coming out of the fight, I am a fan of hers for life.

Did not envy the Judges at all.

Very well said.

I would hate to have judged that also. I would hate to have put a blemish on either woman's titanic effort.

All I know is that was the greatest, most competitive, most hard-fought, no-holds-barred, "nothing tentative" display of GUTS and CLASS that I have personally ever seen in women's MMA.

The fight was boring. There were zero knockdowns. Nobody got finished. Every fight in the history of mankind that didn’t end in a finish was boring

It is one of those fights where both fighters were winners to me. Amazing fight from start to finish.
