Crime and gangs is the number one issue in Latin America and the left wing parties have a terrible reputation when it comes to that. It's the same here in the US. They're just very weak on crime and seen as much by the majority of Americans.

South American leaders are taking the Trump approach. Hard stance on crime and putting up borders, as well as deporting people en masse

Seems like the left wing around the world just tends to be extremely oriented towards academia when political governance requires a tad bit of social aptitude.

Economics, sociology, political science, etc. aren't like math & physics.

It's not just about numbers and written out logic.

There's instincts involved. Understanding of human nature. Life experiences, etc.

The left has always been awful on crime. They're useless on everything besides Palestine, but they're especially bad on crime.

I'm not a Democrat or Republican. I'm conservative.
I can tell you from Republican posters
They have no idea what's going on down here. At all. It's comical. The US Coast guard is completely strung out down here and they navy keeps getting hustled on what is a drug boat. I think they finally figured it out and started going for tankers because those drug boats are still running

Leftist know what's going on but dont really understand how corrupt is is down here. They don't understand the tribalism and the unity Democrats generally understand how things work and handle things down here.
In the states, that's your guys thing I don't know how they handle .. latin America countries in the states.
Right it's really bad because even the Haitians know about Epstein trump and Prince Andrew child rape parties, so everyone pretty United against any American military.

Yeah it's that big of a deal. Yeah it's corrupt and brutal, but 15 years of raping kids, puts orange make up man and his people in a bad position. They are going to have bring the entire fleets to just operate then start protecting captains, seals, commanders families back in the states or just sit around and pretend to being shit or just leave.

Even Hesgerth knows they cannot invade Venezuela, that's bad. Venezuelans know what trump did. They may be a cold civil war but they will unite against a serial child rapist.
And keep in mind months ago when I said shit, it was called bullshit and now most of It has been proven right.

In contrast to those right wing Latin American countries that are a beacon of safety.

El Salvador has seen a dramatic reduction in violent crime, particularly homicides, since President Bukele's government launched a severe anti-gang crackdown in 2022 under a state of exception, leading to mass detentions but also making it one of Central America's safest nations,

The "Trump approach" to crime is to talk tough, then reward corruption and sell pardons (either money or loyalty accepted as payment, preferably both). Doesn't sound too different from what Latin American politicians from both sides seem to love TBH.

Oh, and don't forget to break the law and defy the constitution repeatedly, ignore checks and balances, and defy court rulings (you know, the part of the government that's supposed to decide these things). And that's before even mentioning Jan 6th, or the massive Epstein crimes, which Trump is not only covering up but actively participated in for years.

Anyone who thinks the current right wing in America is tough on crime is completely delusional. Trump and anyone who supports him not only don't care about stopping crime, they are actively pro crime.

Trump is literally rounding up black and brown people and sending them to alligator alcatraz. He's literally sending tanks and national guard to DC and Chicago

This post was almost spot on. I agree

But this:
that's before even mentioning Jan 6th, or the massive Epstein crimes, which Trump is not only covering up but actively participated in for years.

Come on man; Trump is a POS, but there isn't any credible evidence that Trump was involved in Epstein's crimes.

Why didn’t you finish the AI sentence and instead end with a comma?

but this comes with major human rights concerns, including mass arrests, suspension of rights, and new forms of insecurity, particularly for women, despite claims of becoming one of the safest nations
. While violent crime decreased, challenges like drug/human trafficking, money laundering, and risks to women and activists persist, alongside concerns about due process and state surveillance. Prisons conditions include torture, overcrowding and excess death.

What a great comment, yes, it's not perfect. A borderline shithole country can't become Singapore in a day.
It's certainly a major improvement when people can go about their day to day lives without violence anymore.

Maybe they should've sent in more social workers or funded after school programs and it would've become a utopia.

I highlighted the relevant part of the statement - one of the safest nations in Central America.

In contrast to those right wing Latin American countries that are a beacon of safety.

Not to mention that left-wing Claudia Sheinbaum in the 2nd biggest economy in the region (Mexico) is sitting at an insane 70% approval rating.

And ignored the government violence and unreported violent crime stated in the second half of the sentence you cutoff.

Safe, Unless you’re one of the people wrongfully imprisoned in a torture/ death prison, or A trafficked woman, or a victim of violence at the hands of the government. If that’s safe, so was Nazi germany from a violent crime perspective by the citizens.

Why not look at low crime rates in left countries in Europe?

This binary view of myopic left/right good/bad is willfully inflicted stupidity.
