New to forums and was wondering if I should keep my weight forward and back kind of propelled forwards instead of my hips up and my back straight up? I'm in Muay Thai and the former is more comfortable for me, but I don't want to give away anything if I shouldn't. Thanks.

Aren't most Thai boxers 50/50 on front to back leg? Being front heavy obviously makes it harder to kick with the front leg and makes it harder (slower) to check low kicks.

Then again in kickboxing Robin van Roosmalen looks super front foot heavy and just bulldozes forward into punching range with some leg kicks throwing in there.

Being front foot heavy is not textbook neither in boxing and especially not in MT but many boxers and some kickboxers still fight that way 99,999% of all Thais (I haven't seen any who aren't but I'm not an expert on MT so maybe there are some) are light on their front foot you can see it in how they sometimes tip the floor with the front foot ready to check a lowkick or kick witht he front foot

No idea what you should do being front foot heavy certainly isn't textbook.
You should probably do what your trainer wants you to do and when have proven to yourself and to him that you can do the basics textbook you can still experiment in sparring with whatever you want.

depends on your personal style... Even in MT, there are those who are front heavy cause they prefer punching and those who are back heavy for kicking. if you haven't developed a personal style yet, go back heavy.

I appreciate the answers, it is more comfortable being that I prefer punching over kicking but I do find leg kicks very hard to throw. I'll keep experimenting on my own time, but during class I will do what is told of me.

If you lean forward your kicking game will be too telegraphed to ever be effective, but if u are a badass boxer that doesnt even matter. Balanced is way better IMO

Will it put too much stress on my back? I don't plan on being excessively hunched at all, but I do tend to stay with my chin about even with where my chest would be standing straight up.

Your back should be straight in any position whether you lean forward or not you shouldn't bend your back

Yeah, I've always been told not to hunch. I usually try to keep my back position somewhat similar to proper Deadlift form for reference.

i know leaning forward helps if you like to dodge by fading back a lot, since if you are leaning forward and fade back, you will still be pretty balanced. also, if you practice your kicks and flexibility a lot, it should be that big of a deal leaning forward, you can easily shift your weight without the opponent noticing, but you will still be at a slight disadvantage in the kicking department compared to if you have your weight centered. so leaning forward is good for aggression, fading back to dodge, while being centered is better for an all around game
