I saw Last Action Hero once, shortly after it came to VHS. I remember thinking it was pretty bad. Just watched the trailer on Youtube and I'm kind of interested. Did it age well or is it just as bad as it was when it came out?

Same here lol. Obviously I'm not expecting it to be The Godfather, but I'm intrigued by the trailer. Perspectives occasionally change over time.

It's okay. Its main problem is that it wants to be too many things at once: A gag-filled parody, a badass action flick, a self-aware meta-fiction.

Consequently, it doesn't go far enough in any one direction, and you're left with a kind of middling movie. That's why most viewers found it so forgettable.

A lot of Arnie fans were disappointed, especially since it came the year after the massive success and high expectations of Terminator 2.

I will say Charles Dance was great as the villain, and I still laugh about his frustration that his boss can't understand the difference between a 360 degree turn and a 180 degree turn.

It’s a turn your mind off and enjoy it movie. It’s OK there are better.

like mentioned before it tries to many things at once at times.

Now that I have a better understanding of movies, irony, and an overall better sense of humor I like it more. When I saw it as a teen, I didn’t appreciate it as much. Solid 7/10 for me now.

You're remembering it correctly. I'd compare it to something like Tango & Cash. Semi-entertaining movie with A-list talent but filled with stupid cliches and sad attempts at tongue-in-cheek humor that just make you angry. Very forgettable.
