Hi guys, I need/want a laptop for school so I can use it during class or to type up notes and have online access. I don't know much about them, or the difference between a laptop, notebook, or tablet. I don't know what is best for me. Anyone have any suggestions? I am trying to be frugal with it as well. Thank you.

This thing is a screamer and it's really light and portable:

TS is it purely for school? If you're wanting to use it as an all-round desktop replacement and are keen on gaming, I'd highly recommend any Asus ROG series. They're reasonably priced and reliable as hell. Looking around $17,000-2,200 depending on where though.

Buy Asus, Toshida, or Levono and you can;t go wrong

honestly if it's JUST for school and want something cheap, you want an Asus EEE netbook.

- they're lightweight, which is important for college students as books get HEAVY

- they have long battery life, around 8 hours on "power saver" mode and the screen brightness at it's lowest

- and it's cheap. i got mine for $300. just make sure you get the extra 1GB RAM that you have to buy seperately, which I got for only $13.

this is what i got:

I always see great deals on asus and lenovo (my brother is a software engineer and his company gave him a lenovo which he uses for work).

Fujitsu T901/902

I have the 901 and it's fucking awesome for taking notes(it's got a multi-touch(pen&finger) display that swivels and folds onto the keyboard- you can write your notes on your screen!)

I got great advice on mine in these forums. They'll tell you the pro's and con's of each model. There are also subforums for the actual owners, you get to see the problems each individual brand may or may not be having.

+1. Best forum on the web specializing in laptop discussion. It's ironic. You'd expect good discussion and walking encyclopedias of the laptop market to be on forums like Tom's Hardware and Anandtech just like other tech, but nope. Most threads on laptops don't even see a 2nd page. They don't care. It's all about PC desktops and software.
