KSW's final card of the year will mark the beginning of a new ruleset in the promotion to punish athletes that miss weight for their bouts, a point deduction on top of the traditional fine.

The Poland-based MMA promotion announced Tuesday that the upcoming KSW 113 card, scheduled for Dec. 20 in Lodz, Poland, will be the first time athletes will lose a point in the first round of their bouts in case they are over the limit.
“This penalty will apply to everyone who will not make the required weight limit in their given time,” KSW announced. “Meaning during the morning weigh-ins on Friday and in the additional hour.”

Come in 20# heavier and score the KO. No problem.

AI Overview

KSW fighters who miss weight are fined a percentage of their purse that is calculated based on how much they are over the limit, and the entire fine goes to their opponent
. The current structure is a progressive fine system along with an automatic point deduction in the first round of the fight.

KSW Weight Miss Penalties
  • 1 lb over: 10% of purse to the opponent.
  • 2 lbs over: 20% of purse to the opponent.
  • 3 lbs over: 30% of purse to the opponent.
  • Over 3 lbs: The fight may be cancelled, or another agreement must be made with the opponent.
  • Point deduction: In addition to the financial penalty, the overweight fighter automatically loses one point in the first round of the fight.
These rules were implemented to create a stronger deterrent against missing weight, which the promotion views as a significant issue. Repeated offenses can lead to a mandatory change of weight class or being released from the promotion.

RIZIN fighters who miss weight are subject to a 50% deduction of their fight purse. This penalty is typically given to the opponent who made weight.
In addition to the financial penalty, other significant rules apply:
  • Red Card Penalty The overweight fighter starts the bout with a red card, which results in a 50% deduction of points from the judging criteria if the fight goes to a decision.
  • Ineligibility to Win If the fighter who missed weight wins the bout, the result is officially declared a no-contest (NC). The opponent who made weight can still win, and that result will be official.
  • Title Fights If a fighter misses weight for a title bout, they are stripped of the title (if they are the champion) or are ineligible to win the title (if they are the challenger).
These strict rules are designed to ensure fighters take their weight cut obligations seriously.

Good initiative.

Jungle Fight has penalized fighters for missing weight like this previously. It happened at their previous event. Fighter A made weight, fighter B missed weight. Fighter A still accepted to fight and fighter B was deducted a point on the scorecards. The fight was a close decision and due to the deducted point, it ended in as a draw.

In JMMA there’s a rule where if fighter A misses weight, but fighter B accepts to go through with the fight then fighter A will be declared the loser by DQ even if they win.
