Kawazu gake in competition (it's illegal but cool)

can someone please show me in the ibjjf rules where it is written that it is illegal?

Its right next to the place that specifies this thread is about BJJ and not judo.

Is kawazu gake simply any use of that leg grapevine? I've always seen it demonstrated as a rear trip from the same position.

The particular throw in the video is known as an obviv in sambo.

Its grapevining and falling backwards. Its an specific throw.

Backwards as in taking uke backwards, or falling backwards to take uke forwards, as in the video? (I take it you mean the former.)

Both are the same, the difference is only amplitude.

Well, both take uke to his back, but the 'textbook' kawazu gake that I have seen takes uke straight to his back like a tani otoshi, from a parallel position, whereas the obviv in the video takes uke to his back like a gadavlia or lateral facing the opponent, going forward over the shoulder. Maybe I'm misreading.

This is the 'other' kawazu gake I'm talking about:

Compliments to TS for a thread not about GA. I appreciate the effort to be a member of the community talking about grappling.

Japanese terminology + Judo video posted = BJJ thread

. . .

Wait, what? :icon_neut

Because that topic was discussed in the past.
BJJ scout shared that video on FB.
TS is notorious for posting GJJ.
Lot if burt hurt from you as usual.

His name is BJJ Scout, but he knows his judo too. He once did a great breakdown on Rousey's tachiwaza game.

No agonized anus here. I just fail to see how you came to the conclusion that OP was talking about the IBJJF when:

-Japanese terminology used
-Judo video posted
-No mention of BJJ
-It's common knowledge that Kawazu Gake is one of the explicitly forbidden techniques in Judo
-Kawazu Gake is a pretty esoteric technique, probably not even on the IBJJF radar

Too bad the ref did not see this and judge it correctly.
And too bad that apparently a former olympian thinks that it is 'cool' to do an illegal technique in comp...
