Just watched Wiklacz vs Mix

That's bullshit.

Color commentary is meant to provide background on the fighters, technical insight into strategies, and explain the nuances of what’s happening — not to cheerlead. They’re there to inform the audience, not to give a biased assessment of the fight.
They're not cheer leading, they were disagreeing with the decision. You're exaggerating.

You've never seen basketball? Pro Wrestling?....boxing? Other MMA promotions? "That's bullshit" - that's such an odd phrase, it's observable that is what color commentators do. Play by play guys are more objective than color commentators.

Color commentators definitely regularly make statements about who they think win the fight in combat sports - in fact, in many promotions they are often asked who they think are winning the rounds and even have their own scorecard. I'm literally in the middle of a kickboxing match where they are discussing how one judge was crazy for giving a guy a round....

This is not new or uncommon...

You're really referencing pro wrestling? Are you serious right now? Get that redneck bullshit out of UFC discussions.

And in boxing, Teddy Atlas was removed as a live commentator for his bias in calling robbery in the Horn vs Pacquiao fight. So no, this kind of behaviour is not acceptable.

I thought Wiklacz won at the time, but I see no reason to go back and review.

Poor fight and a bad piece of matchmaking really.

I know the UFC hate grapplers, but fights like that are often pretty dull unless there's an energizer bunny-style takedown artist who isn't about pure control.

It's like they wanted both guys to look like shit while preventing them from making a sloppy kickboxer look abysmal.

Mix needs a step down though.

Give him Wellmaker IMO. Mix is clearly a bust. He's lost dominantly against a fringe contender and now fell short against a dude who wasn't even on the radar of most fans prior to this fight. He is not destined for a title run or anything close. All the UFC can get out of him is harvesting what remains of his name value.

They want to push Malcolm, who is fucking old for a BW prospect. What better way than to let him try and collect the scalp of a fairly well-known dude like Mix before he tries to tackle the Top 15? Stylistically it's also a good test because Mix is durable, applies consistent pressure, and will absolutely check Malcolm's defensive grappling. Big step up in competition for Wellmaker, big step down for Mix but with their respective differences in momentum I think it makes sense as a crossroads fight.

I can easily see them releasing Mix at this point. 0-2 in uneventful fights when you are making more than base, and don't bring an audience, is a tough sell.

That's a great call!

I think I'm still picking Patchy, but I wouldn't have an ounce of confidence, and whoever wins is most likely getting a finish and looking pretty slick in their area of expertise.

I generally think the judges are pretty good. People greatly exaggerate the number of bad decisions.

We can watch the same round and have a different opinion about who was more effective and it doesn't mean automatically one of us is wrong.

We don't get a lot of terribly bad decisions, but we sure get a lot of questionable ones. There's only 3 judges which increases the likelyhood that an outlying score from 2 or the 3 can swing an entire fight in a way the majority doesn't agree with.

I think the problem comes when people become so rigid in their beliefs, that they refuse to acknowledge even the possibility of another valid point of view.

I fell into this trap once with Jones vs Reyes, claiming Reyes was robbed. But after disagreeing with several other claimed robberies, I've come to realize that as you said, different people have different perceptions. And what we see on the PPV listening to Rogan, Anik, DC, etc., is not the same thing that the judges see from their ringside seats/monitors.

Basically yes, I agree with you that when fights are close, it's fine for people to have their opinions. But even if the majority feel a certain fighter won, it doesn't make it a robbery. Bias from the commentary and bias from desired outcome can influence our perceptions of fights. It's important to account for that bias and be open to opposing views.

Wiklacz looked like an ameteur constantly jumping for Guillys it cost him the whole third round.

Well, it was the guy's first UFC fight. That's forgiveable. I'm assuming that strategy has worked for him in the past, because he does have a few guillotine choke finishes.

He just learned that this won't work against high level competition in the UFC. This is a chance for his coaches to tell him to stop doing that.

But it's more of an embarrassment for Patchy Mix that he lost a split decision to a UFC newcomer making mistakes like this.

That's just what they do in KSW... they don't pussy-foot around fighting for UD wins

I actually did enjoy how active he was being off his back. Too often guys just lay down and like give up but every time Mix got him down he was working for subs and his way back up and doing it well until they tired out in the third.

Nah low fight IQ by the fighter and the corner they should have seen that dumb Guilly shit wasn't working. The Kid is lucky Mike Bell was a judge that night. That's all I'm gonna say.

It seemed like a layup for Patchy

I dont know if he's a bad fighter or just crushed by the moment. If you think of fighters like Alvarez and Lombard they kind of had shit starts to their ufc starts. Maybe Cro Cop too

He has to show what brought him there or else his ass is cut if he keeps losing

Its also weird his ground game looks kind of bad actually, I don't get it. I am rooting for the guy but for he needs to stop making that dumb face before fights.. Stop acting like your opponent killed you family and then be flat footed and slow once the fight starts and also go the distance.
