I just can't see Merab coming back this career-changing beating.

It's like when Rory lost against Robbie Lawler- he was never the same after that.

Or when Cain Velasquez beat up JDS (after losing to him in the first match).

Merab is 35 at BW. He took a ridiculous physical, mental, and spiritual beating against Petr Yan.

Unless Yan got a lucky fight.

It can happen. Yan comes in without injuries in the best shape of his life, and Merab comes in with injuries and not in his best shape. The result is Merab unable to employ his gameplan and Yan's striking makes the difference.

I'm not saying this is what happened. But it could be the case. And if it is, I would expect Merab to win the rematch.

Yea I guess you were right. I guess the rematch must have been contractually guaranteed. But it should be happening at UFC 327 if that's the case.

IMO the losing party should be required to agree to a contractually obligated rematch date within 6 months of the fight. You shouldn't be allowed to demand the rematch and then say "hold up, I need 8 months to heal up this injury".

Hopefully you are right and Merab/Yan can fight again @ UFC 327, because that event is just over 2 months away and all we have is DDP fighting.

eh... the way i see it, the UFC should be in no rush to hurry the BW division along. Umar and O'malley probably need to fight anyway, Hopefully around the same time, hopefully in a 5 round fight.

Yeah no one wants that at all give onalley sandhagen if he has the balls to finally take that fight. Dont care to see O’Malley get Merab’d (although likely to a lesser degree) again. We know what’s going to happen-if Umar could do it to Corey he’ll certainly do that to Sean.

I get the feeling merab does more damage to himself by being himself in life. Jumping into frozen ponds and all the stupid crap he does that we've prolly never seen. He just doesn't seem like the kind of guy to think about things that deeply to have any profound changes negative or positive.

I have a feeling like he has insanely high DNA percentage.

For a lot of random people in Eurasia it's like 6%.

Imagine if he's like 8-10%.

That's like practically having a Neanderthal great grandparent lol.

they said the same thing when yan lost to merab. "he was done at the top"
They said the same about volk when Illa put his lights out.
And this right here is the point...

These tiny guys aren't undone by losses but rather by age. They lose their speed and cardio and either cheat (like Dillashaw...) or lose a step or two or three (like Cruz).

It will all depend on Merab and how he ages and if he can stay injury free.
