imagine calling the goat whos fighting past the point he needs a duck for not wanting to fight an interim champ with no title defense run. Hes choosing his path out as he should. which is a respectable path at that. its not like hes some 20 year old calling out mike tyson. stipe fight makes sense. alex fight makes sense. everyone pushing for tom doesn't understand what jon has accomplished and how long hes been at the top. at some stage of accomplishments and accolades a fighter deserves to choose their path out. the only thing that would be an issue if he didnt vacate the title if he beats stipe. that keeps toms off the title way to long if jon doesnt vacate the thing is he said he would. hes not trying to mess up toms career. What jon is doing is not only smart for him but it gives the fans fights that make sense. otherwise hes just giving into the ufc marketing machine. makes no sense. that would make him a bitch

If he vacates the belt, sure. But you realize that if he does that, most of the criticism goes away. Yeah some people will continue to say he's scared of Tom but the main gripe is that if he chooses not to unify with a guy who's already defended the interim belt, it holds up the division and makes it a joke. So yeah, let's see what happens. There should be 3 choices for Jon, not 4 if he wins tonight:

Yes:
Fight Tom and unify
Vacate and fight Alex or whoever he wants
Retire

No:
Keep the belt and twist and spin and try to concoct some ridiculous reason as to why he defends vs someone other than Tom

yes. all i keep hearing though instead of this logic is that he needs to fight tom and jon is ducking tom. this sport is full of idiot fans.

Well don't listen to people saying he "has" to. As a fan, it's weird to me someone wouldn't want to see the best fight the best so I'd think we'd all be rooting for Jones to fight Tom. But if Jones wants to retire or vacate, obviously nobody can force him to take that fight.

i dont think of tom as in the same league as "the best " as jon is. hes an interim champ with no title defense run.

It's not when you combine it with the fact that Aspinall's only "loss" in a long time is a freak knee injury that had nothing to do with his opponent beating him. And that he's the interim champ and has been wrecking everyone he's faced at HW for a few years now. It's not one thing. It's the totality of it.
Jones is a legend and GOAT, but if he wants to keep the HW belt he needs to fight the absolute clear cut next guy, period. Otherwise he can vacate and retire or fight Alex or whoever he wants. It's not complicated.
