That's some bullshit for John. Kids are 15 and 11 and seem to have got caught up in gunfite that had nothing to do with them and his daughter is in critical condition in hospital.

Crime is Dorchester is pretty bad (relative to suburbia, not the rest of the boston metro area). This sounds like it was over the top even if it was a shitty neighborhood. I hope his daughter makes it.

There are a lot of dangerous neighborhoods in boston, south dorchester isn't the worst, but it does have its issues. Sad to see innocent kids caught up in it. I really hope they pull through. His son seems to be recovering, but his daughter was hit in the head and still fighting for her life. I hate hearing this news.

Not from the area, but semi-familiar. I used to be up that way a lot. It's a regularish urban area. According to a quick google search, statistically crime is about 50% higher than the national average in dorchester but not that bad as compared to the rest of the Boston metro area.

I'd be interested to hear some locals weigh in.

It may SEEM to happen "anywhere" but in reality it very very much does not. Shootings are concentrated in very specific regions under very specific circumstances.
(Which are easily avoidable.)

Media loves to portray that there are guns everywhere in the US and make it seem like there is a shooting at every elementary school.

In reality more than half of gun deaths are suicide, and the vast majority of remaining gun homicides are gang or drug related.

Remove suicide, gang and drug related shootings and about 2000 americans die via firearm annually.

If you stay out of trouble and live a halfway decent life, gun crime is not a factor in American life.

I have lived in high crime areas and low crime areas. You do not need to be wealthy to afford to live somewhere safe. I was able to afford to live in safe neighborhoods on pizza delivery money in my early 20s.

There are certain cities where no one who wishes to live a safe life should even set foot. They do the heavy lifting that supports most of the scary gun statistics.

Violence happens all over the world, it's super less prevalent in the country and it is things like the video you showed where someone flakes out.

Not hood rats getting in a gun fight and innocent kids end up getting shot like in the inner city projects
