He may have sucked, terribly, at announcing fights, but a part of our sport's history passed away on May 18th. Jim Brown was much better known for his American football skills, where he holds a place in the NFL Hall of Fame and for his social activism. His greatest achievement announcing was labeling Dan Severn with the nickname "The Beast".

Whether or not you think Jim Brown was the best RB of all time overall, there is no denying that he was the most dominant RB of any era during his prime. He retired when he was still a great player, and he could have a whole lot more records and better stats if he had stayed.

No, he was not a bad announcer. The UFC was a new sport at the time, so there was not a lot of knowledge available around being an announcer for the sport. Other announcers of the time were often from combat sports but weren't MMA (NHB) fighters. He did fine for what he had to work with. I'd take him over the bald midget any day.

RIP Jim.
