This movie is clearly Oscar bait. Released at the end of the year, directed by Noah baumbach, stars George Clooney.

It's well acted and decently written but here's the thing. Do you really want to watch a movie about a rich and successful movie star who travels with an entourage that includes his manager, hairdresser, makeup artist, publicist, bodyguard, and personal assistant?

Because that's what you're signing up for. Watching this super rich dude have an existential crisis as he realizes he should've spent more time with his family.

I found myself not caring because he's not relatable at all.

Hollywood really needs to stop making movies about people who make movies.

The last movie about the artist i enjoyed was in the 60s about Michalengelo. Unless the arts community starts handling ideological differences like adults that is not changing.

The hallmark movie formula, which was preceeded by Its a wonderful life, which was a continuation of A Christmas Carol, a bona fide classic as well.
Now it's just part of our collective head canon in terms of what we expect a holiday time of year movie to include.

That's why the best Christmas films are the ones that either challenge this idea (Home Alone, Christmas Vacation) or otherwise gloss over it narratively (Die Hard, Bad Santa, Reindeer Games)

The Clooney version doesn't sound too compelling though, I can see how it could end up being underwhelming.
He peaked with Dusk til Dawn imo

I'm going to give it a watch because George Clooney and Adam Sandler is an interesting combo and Adam usually shines when he wants to act. Punch-Drunk Love, Reign Over Me, Uncut Gems.
