In all seriousness, Izzy outclassed poatan on the ground and held his own standing up outside of a few moments. Izzy probably doesn't want to keep the fight standing up as Pereira has already caught him in two fights. He already has an advantage on the ground as an Atos purple belt and knows that Pereira is vulnerable there. He's now training with Craig Jones to sharpen his finishing skills against an opponent with subpar grappling.

Izzy round 3 submission

But Poatan already has a brown belt. This means Poatan twists Izzy up like Rapunzel and wins by flying gogoplata

Izzy probably wins. I don't think Izzys long to reign on his second tenure though. If Pereira wins he's going to cash out and petition hard for a 205lb title fight before he has to face someone that can actually grapple.
Who do you think takes him outside of Poatan?
Whittaker is good but a bad matchup for him, ditto for Vettori.
Cannonier and Costa have already lost to him as well and I don't see how either beat him.
Robocop and Imanov hype have kinda cooled. Ig there's Strickland and Dricus but Izzy picks either apart easily.
Maybe Bo Nickal or Khamzat but there's still a lot of questions about both guys.

If he beats Alex, Khamzat takes the belt from him in all likelihood. I hope Alex wins against Izzy and moves up to challenge for 205.

Plenty of contenders to challenge Izzy if he wins and wants to defend that belt. I do NOT want to see Strickland getting a shot at Izzy. I don't even know how he's ranked #7.

It would be really funny and cool if Izzy just puts on a grappling clinic from the start of the fight and subs him.

Pereira's big enough to move up if he wants, and chasing strikers would be a smart career move.

Khamzat and Bo aren't really in the same kind of situation and Khamzat has answered a whole lot more questions than Bo. Khamzat actually is a realistic candidate in the near future for the belt, Bo isn't.

I also think Khamzat will definitely win against either Izzy or Poatan, Bo might do the aame though.

After seeing his apparent results with Volk's grappling, I am very interesting to see Izzy's results with ever more time under his training.

The issue is that Khamzat might have to face a guy before Izzy which would probably be more difficult than Izzy. I'd favor Costa over Khamzat for sure which seems to be the rumor, but prolly Khamzat over Izzy. Hell, I'm not sure if i'd favor any top 5 MW over Khamzat

I don't favor Costa. Though that would indeed be a tougher match up. Khamzat is asking for Bobby Knuckles though, who is the most difficult match up for Khamzat, but I still believe he could win. But Bobby definitely could too. Whoever would win that fight if they actually make it, would definitely get a title shot at MW.

Imo, the issue is that every ufc top 5 mw would be a tougher matchup for khamzat than izzy.

Israel Adesanya/ Alex Pereira

Robert Whittaker

Jared Cannonier

Marvin Vettori

Derek Brunson

Paulo Costa

Not sure which one of these is Khamzat's best chance especially since all of them are huge for 185, probably Alex if he loses but I doubt Alex would linger if he does.

Lmao these dudes at city kickboxing train with the best just to get their ass handed to em in the octagon.

poatan 4-0
Deffo a bad year for city kickboxing but Volk won that shit. Is he city though? Idk

Atos purple belt > Average american black belt

Atos purple > average Brazilian black belt too but Atos definitely gifts belts out to big stars like Izzy who give them recognition. I was getting lessons from Andy Murasaki when he was a brown belt and he was winning open weight black belt tournaments as a brown and purple when he was like 17-18. The Ruotolo brothers were probably destroying black belts as blue and purple belts too (I'm not sure when they moved from Hawaii to San Diego though). Most black belts aren't that good, they aren't career athletes who dedicate their lives to something...they're just normal martial artists who showed up 3x a week for 6-8+ years and compete now and again.

Craig Jones’s is going to be in high demand after what he did for Volk.

But seriously Izzy defo needs to grapple and do it quick in my opinion.

Cannonier, Costa and Strickland are guys I have completely written off at this point and have no interest in seeing them in the title picture again unless they show me something or more likely a series of something outside the realm of what I think is even possible.

Robocop and Imavov have cooled for sure but I think Dricus has real potential, I got the impression that was a learning experience for him vs Till and a bad night. How we see his physicality stack up to Brunson's will be interesting to see, I think Dricus has something for guys like Izzy and Pereira with his forward pressure, clinching and takedowns but if he stays at range too long he's going to get pieced up and peaced out. I feel like Andre Muniz is another guy who knows his strengths, is damn good at them and sticks to them, unlike Whittaker he's the kinda guy who if he gets ontop of you it's a huge issue. I also think between the embarrassing loss to Izzy the first time and the close decision vs Izzy the 2nd time, Rob's closing the gap and his confidence is building meanwhile Izzy got knocked out by Pereira. Khamzat I would HOPE doesn't fight Whittaker and gets a slightly less difficult path to a title shot because I actually think he beats Izzy or Pereira but not Whittaker more than likely. Maybe they sign Johnny Eblen haha, Eblen, Mineev and Gasanov all give Pereira or Izzy big problems change my mind.
