Last night 2 Judges scored round 1 for Broner.

There's a major problem with this. Broner didn't land 1 punch in round 1. 0/12.

It's time to be done with unofficial scoring and judge's scorecards.

It's 2021 fights should be scored on punches landed. Land more punches = win the fight.

Ummm no, that's idiotic and basically strips the sweet science down to a rec centre point fighting karate tournament.

Punches are not created equal. A flicking jab that lands is not equal to, for example, a left hook that wobbles an opponent's legs. But under your proposed scoring system, they would be.

This I agree with. A touchdown isn't as many points as a Field Goal.

So easy solution. A jab isn't worth as many points as a power punch and a power punch isn't worth as many points as a knockdown.

What a bad idea.
So we just keep it as it is now, where a fighter can land 0 punches in a round and 66% of the judges judge him winning the round.

This current system works so well.

Power punches are already worth more than regular punches and knockdowns almost guarantee a 10-8 round.

Controversial scoring, the post-fight discussions about the fight and the scoring, conversation, different opinions, maybe even corruption to a certain degree... That's all part of the sport and always has been.

To quote George Foreman: It's like a beauty contest.

This wasn't the case for Santiago. He landed more power punches and lost.

broner for me lost the first round but when only 3 punches landed it was a slow round but yeah it shouldnt have went to broner. however I did score the fight to broner overall

or is the problem these shitty stat sites that may be getting it all wrong and people thinking they are dead on balls accurate?

these compubox style figures are just people sitting there pressing buttons, they will be wrong 90% of the time as they are seeing it from a certain angle, just like the judges

Boxing is one of the sports where promoters can wine and dine officials and no one says anything about conflict of interest. You can literally court their favour. Other organized sports there would be some eyebrows raised of some kind of reaction, but not boxing. You see shit like this, like the scorecards for Berto vs Soto-karass which would have robbed Soto if he didn't get the stoppage (iirc).

Plus hometown protecte champs who never had balls to fight on foreign soil in pros etc symbols of pride for business.

The judges screw up using the scoring system.
Continued training for judges and holding them accountable for bad scoring would be better than trying to come up with a better scoring system. We also have to realize that a judge only has one perspective and doesn't always have the best view, or the benefit of replays and slow motion, and that we all have different opinions of who might have been more effective.

I think that tends to favor certain styes of fighters and will likely have more fighters just winging power punches.
