Islam needs to fire his manager. Salary dosclosed

$200,000 to be "world champion"?? UFC really IS cheap.

Nah he's fine, quarter mil for not even 5 min of work? And he has the short-notice excuse so it won't really set his career back. Like all due respect to his top-15 skills but he's not a champ material fighter
Not really 5 minutes of work. He had a full training camp, he didn't just get off the couch.

unfortunately no real amounts are ever mentioned, it doesn't belong in a major sport like ufc mma.

Atleast I can tolerate you nowadays, the Makhachev hater you were a year ago probably would’ve been banned after tonight’s event.
Why? I haven’t done anything?
You are the one here again trying to initiate something.

If you get paid more you make more even if you pay more tax...

Guys structure their contracts differently, some get big payments spread out.

Overeem ended up in court at one point and his 3 fight contract details from 2012 got leaked.
  • $400k base per fight
  • PPV points
  • $1m extra paid in three installments in line with his first three fights - this wouldn't show up in the athletic commission reports and I imagine Islam has something similar

That contract only defines the required minimum conditions for him to fight. That is just the retainer contract to secure him on the roster, but obviously since it covers 3 fights, can't possibly be the terms for any actual fight. For a fight to happen, each fighter must sign a separate contract defining the very specific details of that fight. I have seen and read complete UFC retainer contracts for a couple fighters, but I have never seen a UFC fight contract. Those contracts define the real fighter pay that is never disclosed.

There are many reasons why it is good for fighters that disclosed pay is much less than actual pay, one of them being fighting in a country like Australia that is going to rob them of half that disclosed amount for taxes.

The disclosed payouts should not be reported by the media as they are misleading

(Granted, I've also been guilty about writing threads about these numbers. Cause the confusing part is SOME numbers seem accurate (like how Reem had one of the highest payouts for a while) which in the past made me think they weren't entirely wrong .. but now I've realised they are so often implausible they should be ignored)
