You might want to fire your English teacher... DISCLOSED.

That’ll be 300 bucks. I’ll send you an invoice.

A lot of these Russian fighters get their money from alternative sources. Sponsorships. Gifts from Russian/third-world elites. Etc. So Islam probably doesn't feel much need to hassle for a large paycheck.
Got to love California being one of the few US states still releasing purse numbers.

Usually these things are bullshit but "California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster released a full list of fighter purses Saturday to MMA Junkie. The amounts reflect only the disclosed payouts. They do not include any off-contract bonuses, sponsor payments or discretionary bonuses.".
And Mak is getting PPV points. He'll be fine. And anytime he fights in Abu Dhabi it's probably fucking crazy.

Honestly, moicano is the one getting fucked here. Mak is probably guaranteed PPV. No way Moicano is. Short notice opponent switch up to get choked out in a round against the champ?

Nah he's fine, quarter mil for not even 5 min of work? And he has the short-notice excuse so it won't really set his career back. Like all due respect to his top-15 skills but he's not a champ material fighter

i wouldn't want to argue for more outright pay. imagine the taxes. i'm sure he's ok with his "backroom bonuses".
If you get paid more you make more even if you pay more tax...

Guys structure their contracts differently, some get big payments spread out.

Overeem ended up in court at one point and his 3 fight contract details from 2012 got leaked.
  • $400k base per fight
  • PPV points
  • $1m extra paid in three installments in line with his first three fights - this wouldn't show up in the athletic commission reports and I imagine Islam has something similar

You don't get Ali Abdelaziz as your manager and then tell him "don't worry about getting me a good deal with the UFC even though I'm one of the most dominant champs in history".

yes, but not paying taxes on money means you get more percentage of the money. if i negotiate for a 500k a fight contract, and then i have to pay 50% in taxes, i make less money than if i ask for 250k a fight, but get 200k in "backroom bonuses" or "under the table" payments whatever you want to call it.

They still gotta pay tax on bonuses, especially now they're owned by TKO, cant just slide guys a briefcase full of cash like the Pride Yakuza days.

Fuck your dumb
Here's the real salary
"
Islam, the current UFC Lightweight Champion, is also the pound-for-pound king of the organization. According to reports, Makhachev's fight contract includes a base pay of about $1 million per fight. UFC has not disclosed the payout for the event but the California State Athletic Commission may release the minimum purse."
