Two KOs in a row going into the third

After Lopes starches him, Volk will rack up some tough losses at LW and refuse to retire

Volk who will forever be mentioned as one of the best in his weight class ever with 5 title defenses and was very competitive while fighting for gold at LW? No, this is probably the only time I saw him mentioned in connection with Tony.

What's with the Lopes hype? Where did this shit come from? Who's he beaten outside of the very very very beatable Ortega?
Ortega almost beat prime Volk

Lopes will face a washed out Volk

Volk is arguably the best FW ever TS. He may have a string of losses, but by comparing him to Tony, you are missing the mark by a wide margin. And that is me putting it nicely. Champ shit only. Show some respect.

Interim champ

And seemed unstoppable before Gaethje, was considered the one who would defeat Khabib
"seemed unstoppable"

That's cute but delusional.

Tony barely made it through many of the fights even during his win streak, he was usually getting his ass kicked to barely survive and come back

Kevin Lee beat the absolute shit out of him but then gassed because of a nasty staph infection
Anthony Pettis beat the absolute shit of of him but broke his hand and couldn't continue
Donald Cerrone only lost because he stupidly blew his nose between rounds.

It was a miracle that Tony won either of those fights. He looked incredibly lucky, not unstoppable

And nobody with a shred of common sense thought he'd have a chance against Khabib. Khabib was always going to destroy him.

James Tony? I hope not

Tony was never at Volk's level in the first place.

The next BJ would even be a lower bar. At least Tony isn't on camera getting himself knocked out by a fat boy outside of some seedy bar.

Tonys the type of guy to have multiple title defenses in another life.

he also spent the majority of the Castillo's fight unable to do anything on the ground
and
he was badly rocked by a short notice Vannata who gassed himself trying to finish the fight and eventually became a stationary target

Tony's streak is probably the most lucky one witnessed in a sport: if you watch it from afar it seems incredible but if you go and see every single match you'll realize that it is full of (lucky) coincidences
Tony's career is a can of worms that, if i were a fan of his, i'd rather not open.

What's with the Lopes hype? Where did this shit come from? Who's he beaten outside of the very very very beatable Ortega?

He fought undefeated Movsar on short notice and put on a thriller. He goes on to win his next 5 UFC fights and legitimately out classes veterans in Ige and Ortega.

Combine it all and anyone with eyeballs and a cursory knowledge of MMA can tell he's a contender and will be a problem in the division.

Not sure what else you would like a prospect to do?

Volka is good but I cannot see him likely beating Topuria in a rematch.
Lopes is also a super dangerous fight for him.
If I were him 'd say to UFC "It's Topuria II or I ain't signing anything".

To beat lopes and then Topuria would be a very big ask.
For him I'd say title shot or nothing. Topuria seems ok with it.
