Bears very unpredictable and poor timing is what usually leads to lethal encounters. Wrong place, wrong time. With black and brown bears, you may have a chance to evade a confrontation by intimidation or even playing dead. Good luck with Polar Bears. Those things always go for the kill.

The vast majority of grizzly bear charges are bluffs. People around them a lot often get a feel for whether the bear means business or not. But even bluff charges are terrifying.

If your in bear country have bear spray on you. Bear Spray is best weapon . Noise works but its not reliable if the besr is curious. Spray will work on just about any bear as long as its not pissed or really hungry. A 12 gauge slug is a last resort as you don't want to kill the bear and delending on bear even that might just piss it off more.
