I'm from Belgium, so HBO is not included in the optional cable package. Do they offer a way to buy the PPV's online? Can't seem to find it... Honestly, I wouldn't mind shelling out the cash for a legit HD stream. Any tips are welcome!

HBO doesnt own exclusive rights to any fights. they just own rights for the US region, or if any other broadcaster in another country licenses the HBO feed.

individual fights have different broadcasters in europe. so obviously HBO cant stream their own version of the feed if it means coming in competition to the local feed of your region.

According to Wikipedia Mayweather vs Ortiz was carried by Be Sport 1 in Belgium; I assume this is the channel they're usually on there; I don't know if that's PPV or free TV though

Also HBO have done a deal with the PS3 so hopefully the fights will be streamed on that for everyone not in the US

On that note it's always worth mentioning this is why boxing's PPV numbers can be deceiving; The usual PPV numbers released are only HBO numbers and we usually don't learn of the PPV numbers from other countries; A Manny or May fight that earns 1 million PPV buys is purely a US number; Internationally it could be closer to 2 million every time; This is why boxing has actually being kicking the UFC's ass for a long time now since the UFC's released buy numbers are always international.

You should contact HBO or the promoters and ask them if they can start offering online PPV's.

lol, perhaps I should, but I don't think one begging dude from Belgium is going to change their broadcasting strategy, but who knows...

Thanks for the tips either way, I'll look into it. I think Be Sport 1 is a Wallonian station. So we don't have that (being Flemish). It's really stupid anyway, our home politics are so complicated and absurd I have given up on trying to explain them to foreigners. Our country is a mess, I'll leave it at that haha

I'm a supporter of the fries revolution...

What countries run MMA and boxing Payperviews?

From what I know it's USA, Canada, UK, and Australia.

Any others?

this is true that most probably it is just HBO numbers being tallied. but internationally, the numbers wont add up to that much. aside from the US, the only countries where PPV even has a market/platform is the UK and Australia. and over there, only select events are on PPV. everywhere else, sports is on free-TV.

in the UK, most of the HBO fights are on SKY BOX OFFICE. the fights are with their own commentary-team (not HBO's). but recently, SKY has announced they will stop carrying most boxing PPVs. (Sky Done With Pay-Per-View Boxing) Most fights will have to be aired on TV channels or subscription-TV channels.

all UFC events are aired for free in the UK on espn there, which is a subscription channel. so i think US and Australia are the only ones buying PPVs for ufc. the WWE airs six ppv-events for free on skysports, which is a subscription channel, and another six on PPV. i believe the average price of a PPV in the uk is

HBO fights aren't shown on Sky box office in the UK, they tend to be shown on Sky sports 1; Since Sky announced they would stop carrying PPV primetime have moved in to pick up the slack; And there are a lot of other countries with a PPV market which go completely unmentioned in the debate; For example some boxing events are on PPV in Japan and some eastern euro countries as well as others, even some Latin American countries get the odd PPV; Haye-Wlad was on PPV in Australia and Japan, Vitali-Adamek was on PPV in Poland; Can't imagine we'll ever hear what kind of numbers they get in those countries; Promoters don't even tell us what kind of numbers they get out of Canada

The largest PPV market for the UFC's PPV buys is Canada, with the US in second, then Australia, then scattered numbers from other countries

by the time i had written this, i remembered that i foghot to mention Canada. basically USA and Canada are the two biggest PPV markets, followed by Australia and UK. i know most boxing is carried on TV-channels instead of PPV in the UK, as i just mentioned it. but thats what i meant that, occassional events are carried on PPV in UK and Australia, but majority events are shown on some TV-channel or another.

as for the PPV market in other countries of europe, or brazil. it is very small and barely gets more than a few thousand buys. as for japan, most boxing there is shown on WOWOW a subscription channel, or if its a japanese-event than any of the network channels like FUJI or TV-Tokyo. the UK is a rich country and yet so many people complain about PPV-model, in the developing world like Latin America or Eastern Europe, there are few who would bother to buy such a thing.

Heres a list of global tv channels that carried Mayweather vs Ortiz:
Argentina > TyC Sports
Belgium > Be Sport 1
Czech Republic > Sport 1
Denmark > TV2 Sport
Europe > Eurosport
France > Canal+ Sport
Hungary > Sport 1
Iceland > St

That fight was on Eurosport as well??? Can't believe I missed that... I'm gonna keep a closer eye on their boxing schedule from now on, thanks for the heads up!

That's an incomplete list. Most big boxing matches are shown in over a hundred countries. I don't think Japan's PPV market is all that bad. As I said I doubt we'll ever be told what kind of PPV numbers they get for boxing over there but as I understand it the PPV market for anime/movies is very strong. Someone who speaks Japanese would probably have better luck finding out on the net than someone who doesn't.

if Japan's PPV market was any good, than PRIDE wouldnt have ever suffered the loss it did. PRIDE was always on PPV, but the moment they were kicked off of FUJI they couldnt sustain themselves any longer. PPV has no market in Japan, which is why all the MMA and K-1 is on network TV. and all the smaller shows are on fight/sports channels like SamuraiTV or GAORA.

as for the list being incomplete, i doubt it. boxing isnt as widely-available as you think. some of those channels obviously air to more than one country, like SuperSport, it serves most of central/southern Africa, and Al-Jazeera Sport serves most of the middleeast.

But i know for a fact that boxing doesnt even air in China or South Asia (india, bangladesh, pakistan, etc). and they make up a quarter to a third of the world population. i know cuz i have lived in those places for many years (i live in NY currently). only WWE airs in southasia on TEN Sports, and its huge there. i dare you to find me any piece of evidence from any TV-channel showing that they broadcast boxing in any of the countries in southasia or china.

Do you get the German feed? if so, then you missed it. they aired the full card.

Pride/MMA collapsed due to a decrease in interest from the public. If the people aren't interested then they aren't going to buy it either. I'm not even sure if Dream are on public tv anymore. I heard nothing about TV ratings for their last event. As a long time fan of anime I've learend over the years that the PPV market for animes and movies is pretty big, especially when it comes to hentai. Even TV series get put on PPV over there.

it's an incomplete list. Same as how Haye vs Wlad was shown in over 150 yet the wiki article only shows roughly the same hand full of stations. People are just rounding off the stations with little interest in going through all of them. A Mayweather or Pac fight is on roughly the same scale as that.

I don't see what that has to do with anything. Unless the topic suddenly switched to TV ratings I don't see what the population of those countries have to do with anything. I've no idea what kind of argument you're trying to make with this.

Boxing does air in china albeit on a smaller scale BTW

Already gave you one for China.

Geosport Pakistan:
GEO Super - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
From the first sentence under coverage:
Geo Super covers all major events in the cricketing world, boxing, hockey, football and tennis. Events like The Ashes, ICC Cricket World Cup, ICC World Twenty20, ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan's domestic T20 Cup, IPL and Pakistan Boxing league to name a few.

I know that's a wiki article but since someone else wrote it a while back it would seem strange to mention it covers major boxing events if it didn't show major boxing events.

I know nothing about Bangladesh TV but if I knew what the regular sports stations were in the country I'm sure I could find out. Otherwise all the channels seem to be private and state owned.

Pakistan, bangladesh and india share the same sports channels amongst each other. and all GEO has ever aired is a few Amir Khan fights and nothing more. there is virtually no boxing coverage in southasia, except the first two seasons of THE CONTENDER that was aired on AXN.

biggest bullshit ive ever read, shows u know nothing of japanese mma/fight scene. the popularity of PRIDE/K-1 was enormous around that time, its only recently that popularity has waned. PRIDE was shutdown because a magazine published some articles claiming DSE (pride's owners) were involved with Yakuza. that led to FUJI TV kicking out PRIDE programming from their channel. the lack of advertising and TV revenue from FUJI, is what chokedout PRIDE.

as for hentai, porn is available in PPV format in most countries in the world that allow it. its a budget industry and hentai production is terrible compared to mainstream animes. and it is not on the same level as mma/boxing or japanese sporting events. why dont u just ask any of the japanese members from the MMA/K-1 section if you rly think u have any clue what ur talking about.

yes, its an incomplete list. a few more channels here and there that aired the fight. but not the 100 countries you claim. boxing doesnt air in that many countries. these figures of "broadcast in 100 (or 150) (or 195) countries worldwide" are always bullshit.

I don't see what that has to do with anything. Unless the topic suddenly switched to TV ratings I don't see what the population of those countries have to do with anything. I've no idea what kind of argument you're trying to make with this.

you're the one that claimed it was an incomplete list. youre the one that claimed it aired in 100 countries. youre the one that cant event provide that LIST of 100 supposed countries. regardless of wether its boxing or ufc or any other programming/event claiming such. the only sport thats aired in that many countries is FIFA and the Olympics.

Boxing does air in china albeit on a smaller scale BTW

okay, so a random or obscure boxing match was aired on some station in china. that doesnt mean boxing per se is regularly aired there, or that maweather-ortiz ever aired there.
