  • Don'Tale Mayes: HW, only win in the UFC against Roque Martinez.
  • Devin Clark: decent but clearly mid level LHW fighter.
  • Jon Jones: moving to HW, performance unknown.
  • Holly Holm: doing well.
  • Michelle Waterson: 2-3 in last three years with the two wins against Angela Hill and Karolina Kowalkiewicz, who has lost her last 5 bouts.
These are their only notable fighters. Both Mayes and Clark look like great athletes and can clearly move well but their skills put them at low and mid tier respectively. Jon Jones fought a competitive fight against Reyes, a dangerous fighter whom many Sherdoggers underrate because he lost to Jan, the best LHW in the world and Jiri, whom he had a brutal fight against. I'd rate him as still doing well even if the judges gave him the L against Reyes and leave it at that. Holm is definitely doing well and Waterson is in a rut.

These are the only notable fighters, prospect or otherwise, they current have. Jon and Holm were at one point their defining fighters. Incidentally, both peaked at 2015 when Jones defeated Cormier the first time and Holm headkicked Rousey. Now in 2021, only Jones is still performing at a high level.

It's not what it used to be, they've had an unorthodox approach to training / fighting that worked in the earlier days, but other camps have sharpened up and become more technical / dangerous and nullified their unorthodox approach.

Jon Jones is talented enough to carry their rep. But he should consider training somewhere else, imagine an AKA Jones or ATT Jones.. he could improve a lot..

I can't recall Jackson fighters having great boxing..

Kind of odd to say "performance unknown" for Jon Jones but then say Holly Holm is "doing well"

Last I checked Holly Holm was 3-5 after her upset title win over Rouesy while Jon Jones is probably the GOAT of this sport or next to GSP up there.

Just find that odd. Sort of agree with your topic, I think most people have seen the dramatic decrease in output of high level fighters from this camp, but the camp essentially decided to center itself around Jones. Which makes sense, or did.

This thread would be relevant if it were posted 10 years ago.

It's properly rated. The gym is trash now so it doesn't really get talked about these days.

The gym did help build MMA to what it is today so it deserves some respect.

Who rates them so highly now?

Its a worthless thread to make. Camps have ups and downs, and some decline for good with the age of the guys running it and the ones fighting for them. Its no big surprise and not really relevant to talk about, its the same as anything. What do you want them to do? Pull a new Greg Jackson from their ass?

its like saying MFS was overrated 10 yrs ago. It doesnt make you look smart. Quite the opposite, actually.

To be fair they have a LOT of professional fighters at the gym

Having some of those guys to train against is pretty decent. They also likely have good connections to help fighters get professional fights early on in their career.

I'm sorry I'm not an mma gym expert, just a causal dude made this to see what sherdoggers thought of the gym when it came up in a random conversation. I'll go and start educating myself and strive to be a learned fan like you!

Tristar

Arnold Allen

The rest... Even Rory doesn't train full time there anymore

Ever since Georges left or retired Tristar got exposed for what it was a middling camp carried by one of the GOATs

A lot of their fighters aged out and didn't give back to the camp. Even Greg Jackson isn't there as much anymore.

You can’t stay on top forever, folks. Don’t worry, their kids class can still tool every last one of you couch potatoes that live here.
