and do you think one of the competitors demanded that it not be on the main event?

it was never meant to be a main event, btw. from 11/21:

The most interesting point is that this bout is not the main event per the press release. It has been announced that Renan Barao is going to be talked into defending his interim bantamweight title, but that may not be for this card. The more interesting rumor is that UFC 157 could be Ronda Rousey

I don't know if Machida or Hendo demanded that it not being main event but if so, my guess is Hendo.

I'm disappointed that they are promoting it above Machida and Hendo. I will be amazed if Rousey/Carmouche goes into the title rounds and right now a lot of people are jumping on the Rousey bandwagon. People want to see her fight regardless of whether or not it is the main event. It is degrading to put Hendo and Machida beneath a hype train. And maybe Rousey deserves the main event... but against Carmouche? I would only agree if it was Santos. If nothing else putting Hendo and Machida in the main event would help direct the new viewers that are entranced with Rousey to recognize how awesome Hendo and Machida really are. And Machida and Hendo at least have a chance of going into the championship rounds.

Why Hendo? What has he ever done to make you guess that? I would say Machida would before him but, I doubt that too.

yup, get over it, ittl still be a great fight, plus it helps Hendo....... Merica

It benefits Hendo and hurts Machida. It lets Hendo throw H-bombs for 3 rounds without worrying about his gas tank. But I agree I doubt he would do that

Yeah because Dana White thinks a woman defending a title of a division that don't exist deserves to be main-event over two MMA LEGENDS.

you didn't get anything i said, did you?

1. it was decided LONG BEFORE the Liz/Ronda bout that Machida v Hendo would not be a main event or 5 rounder. therefore,
2. something has to be a main event, because by definition, M v H will not be. therefore,
3. blaming Rousey for it is misguided, at best. closer to ignorant.

you have to think, young skywalkers.

I dont care if it's the main event or not. When two top contenders fight it should always be a five rounder.

Why shouldnt Rowdy vs Liz be the main event?

Its a championship fight with a dominant and popular champion. Any other division and it wouldnt even cross your mind to doubt a similar champ fighting in the main event, regardless of the opponent.

Im ok with only main events being the longer 5 round fights.

Although if UFC stated that in the future all #1 contender fights would be 5 rounds, even if not the main event, I wouldnt complain.(heck it would be kinda neat)

3 rounder works for me. Probably better for Hendo. I think machidas getting KOed in the first anyways so it doesn't really matter.

Hendo is getting older and after the way he gassed against Shogun, I wouldn't be surprised if he angled for a three round fight, and I have no problem with it.
