he's gay?

I remember when I first watched the documentary Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, that interview with him, which is presented above in the video, was... iconic, yet very spooky and almost hilarious in a sense because he was so serious with what he was saying... but when you find out that he's actually homosexual, and given Christianity(and the "semetic roots" as he called it) are very much against that, do you think that's atleast partly if not completely what drew him too it?

It's also not a good community to be a part of if you're gay(apparantly his companion got death threats when he came out), being that Black Metal musicians are somewhat known for being very homophobic or "homo-haters" if you will, for lack of better, more specific and descriptive term. Hellhammer, the drummer of Mayhem has been on record as saying(aswell as other things, like racism towards anyone who isn't white, according too Varg Vikernes, he used to wear a white power patch on his jacket or something and the "inner circle" of Black Metal was very much a racist bunch) he was happy when that gay man was killed by Faust, the drummer of Emperor and supported him "killing a fucking :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:"...

There's quite alot of... really shady things going on in the Black Metal community... Satanism almost being the least vile, because I doubt very much that the average Black Metal musician is really a Satanist or takes it seriously, but more so uses it for shock value... but when you look at guys like Varg(a self admitted racist), Hellhammer(homo-hater and racist), Euronymous(was, when he was alive very much an insecure elitist no better than your average hipster on a Metal forum, not a very big fan of that guy), Dead(the guy was clearly insane, but he had alot of elitist views as well, just look at some of his old quotes about wanting to get rid of "posers" at shows and everything)... you can go on and on about it.

I like Black Metal... it's one of the great sub-genres of Metal when done right, but alot of Norwegian guys who got the movement started... I hate to say it, but they were and still are a bunch of pricks that I would never have anything to do with.

ArchGoat, if you're reading this, I'm not trying to shit on the music, but this is something I felt I needed to say, because while it doesn't necessarily have a huge effect on the music itself, there are alot of terrible ideas and attitudes running rampant in the Black Metal scene, it's undeniable, I'm sure you were aware of all of this and more already.

Im not sure if Gaahl is gay because he's a Satanist maybe not because if that were the case then more Black Metal musicians would be gay someone should ask Gaahl that in an interview though it might have something to do with it. think you are right about the Satanism stuff I'm not sure how many of them are true Satanists it comes with the Territory if you're a Black Metal band you might have Satanic Lyrics or use Satanic imagery but are they true Satanists? I dont think that every band that plays Black Metal is Satanic...some don't even have Satanic Lyrics and most probably don't take it serious...but there are some that do Euronymous, Gaahl, several other people in the genre as well as certain bands like Thornspawn and Black Witchery. Black Witchery actually practice what they preach so there are some that are true Satanists imo

There will always be guys that take things too far, but I feel as if modern black metal as a whole has progressed beyond the "shock image" of the first and second waves. NS and other extreme ideals still exist of course and there a undesirables in every group or subculture, but does it carry any real or significant influence? I don't believe so.
