I used to think so before he found his funk phase. When he was doing the power ballad for pussy thing, I couldn't hate, but it wasn't for me, and clearly wasn't intended to be.

But he found his groove with Uptown Funk. I'm fully on board, now.

if we hold him to only 'pop singers' he's highly legit, I'd only put Sam Smith above him for current Male Pop vocalists off the top of my head (he's way better than Timberlake, for instance)

but to me he was always a soul singer, simply singing pop or funk music.

I think he's talented. I might be biased though since he went to the same high school as me and hung out with one of my best friends younger brother. In general though 'pop' is not really my cup of tea.
