Title says it all.

Is this match possible?
Most likely outcome?

Not very likely.

They're both basically the same team. Roger did most of his ADCC prep at Renzo's.

Gordon is always very respectful of Roger, probably from hearing Danaher talk about him.

They're both (lol) retired and with too many significant team connections. Not gonna happen although I think not a single grappling fan wouldn't have liked to see prime Roger (aware of the modern stuff) against best Gordan.

Yeah Gordon is significantly more respectful of some of the veteran GB guys like Roger and Braulio than many others.

I don't think Roger being friendly with Gordon's gym has anything to do with it. Hell, Gordon just fought Garry Tonon in ADCC, and that's his goddamn everyday teammate. These aren't pro wrasslin grudge matches, this is martial art. They could go after each other hard as possible, and be perfectly cool the second the match is over.

That said, it won't happen for other reasons. Roger is way retired, and already far down the road focused on other things besides competing. Gordon is pseudo maybe kinda retired. This is basically in the realm of fan fiction.

A more realistic dream is to hope we get one more Gordon / Pena match someday. (I think we will)

If they were in the same bracket I don't think either would bow out- especially at adcc- they'll just never get put in the same bracket.

I don't think a superfight happens either. Roger has nothing left to prove.

Tonon isn't just his teammate but his coach. He actually did most of his training to black belt under Tonon. His black belt is under Tonon/Danaher.

For sure. And if Gordon could compete against one of his senseis / brothers, he could obviously compete against Roger.

It just won’t happen, for a myriad of other reasons. But ‘respect’ has nothing to do with it, as others in the thread have speculated. Competing isn’t even disrespect anyways.

I'd like to see Gordon vs Ken Shamrock in a battle of leglocks.

I mostly agree but we aren't seeing teammates make Superfights. It's different than entering a bracket, you have to train to beat that 1 person.

Roger doesn't show a lot of No-Gi on his site, he's done alot of his No-Gi prep at Renzo's in the past. I wonder if he would for a match like this?

That would be a very quick match. A younger Ken might last a bit longer than a minute or two.

Well, you said it yourself. It's the whole mix. Both retired+Roger never being primarily nogi+not even likely to being trash talked into it ala Galvao cause Renzo and stuff. It may not be the main cause, but it's still of some relevance. I'm like 100% sure that time ago, when he was on his "calling out" rampage, Gordan would have challenged or at least poked him a bit, otherwise.

If they were both in their prime and active it would be different although I'm still not sure we'd see a superfight between them. If they were in an ADCC bracket yeah, no doubt they'd both go at it.

How bout Gordon vs Fedor- Combat Jiu Jitsu rules, Pancrase palm strikes standing allowed?

Roger has retired and doesn't train super hard ever day anymore. I do believe he has a chance to take out Gordon but a very big pile of money would be required to motivate (and soon before he gets ancient)

not really interested in seeing roger get heel hooked in 45 seconds also like roger so would be bad for his legacy

Roger has trained with high level guys (like Braulio) so I doubt he is oblivious to heel hooks.
