Interim belts are a bad idea

UFC needs to get their act together and stop making these stupid interim belts. Being the undisputed champion in UFC is supposed to be the most prestigious achievement in MMA. Having these interim belts around really waters down the value of the title. Also these theatrics need to end, fake feuds and acting are so lame. It's sad that casuals need this trash to be interested. UFC needs to separate itself from WWE. This is a real sport not fake sports entertainment
 
Too many title belts is what ruined boxing for a lot of fans. Who's really the best in the world when there are like 6 different world titles at about 50 different weight classes?
 
Nah. The only time it waters stuff down is when they do it for no reason, like giving it to Jon Jones.

Under idea circumstances, its fine.
 
Interim belts should only be made when the champ is unable to fight.

Giving one to Aldo vs Edgar winner was really dumb too. It was acceptable when Renan Barao became interim champion while Cruz was out for 2 years. An interim title should only be created when a champion cannot fight for a long time and it should mean a guaranteed unification bout with the champion upon his/her return

Yeah, I agree with this. Especially since he has no plan to defend that title.
 
They make for times like when Cruz was out for years, but they are way overused now.

Correction, Interim titles are only bad when a champ isn't injured and when you hand them out like candy
 
I think the idea of them are fine, they are just implemented horribly. I do agree they should just go away because of that though.
 
If only Aldo had more drive....

Imagine the hype of past rivals....each having belts in two different divisions. Finally meeting after a year and a half delay.

Pretty stupid imo but it's possible lol.
 
Conor makes more money for UFC than all FW and LW fighters combined (most are a liability in fact). Do I think it's BS? Sure but at the end of the day money talks. Just imagine if you had a salesman responsible for 50% of your revenue and 600 others for the other 50%. He could do whatever he wanted. Add in fact you have interest payments that cant be met without him... Leverage big time which why you are seeing these interim titles, he fights who he wants, and he will never be stripped.

You know Fergie vs Nurmy for the interim LW title is coming in Feb or March. Can you imagine if the winner fought and lost to Aldo? Aldo would be two divisional interim FW and LW champion.

If you say that backwards, you can travel through time.
 
I think interim belts are dumb...but they make sense from a marketing standpoint.

Also, I think a lot of fighters have contracts that tier up when it's a title fight....so maybe it's a way of satisfying fighters. I don't know.

Not at the weight class that he has been claiming to be Champ of. Whats more legit reason for an Interim belt. UFC BW division champion Cruz got hurt, booked for a defense, hurt again, booked again and after 2 years they made an interim Belt. Conor won FW 1 year ago and has fought 3 times at LW (Diaz is a LW those were not WW fights). If Conor doesn't fight Aldo in his next fight he must vacate or be stripped of the FW title. Interim Belts are not great but fighters winning belts and moving on to the next division without one single defense is miles worse.
