“Incels” are an online community of mostly young men, some of whom promote violent hatred of women. In the online world, violent extremism is evolving in ever more fluid ways — with fatal consequences in the real world.
Cliffs:
- The influence of internet on extremism
- government struggle with this evolution
- can tech help?
- jake davidson, murderer in the UK linked to online incel community’s
- little bit about what incels do online and where (misogyny on reddit, 4chan, etc.)
- isolation + endless stream of content will lead to increased membership and potential for violence because of that
- research: 59% increase in code words linked to mass murders
- stop the lone wolf narrative
- little bit about qanon
- internet causes groups to be smaller and thus easier to be extremist
- overlap between incel ideology and the alt right
- next ten years acceleration in intertwined ideologies
- easier to share instant and endlessly misinformation
- andrew tate normalizing misogyny
- solution: adds linked to google searches; so basically if you’re looking up extremist shit you get adds for mental health services
Well interesting video. I don’t know about the solution tbh. If I’m looking for extreme misogynistic videos on google or looking for the next popular incel hang out, am I gonna be deterred by some lame advertising about mental health? don’t think so.
The fusion of all the ideologies is interesting though. You can see it already with Andrew Tate becoming muslim. We have a far right group here too who are suddenly embracing islam and denouncing christendom because they are “pussy’s”.
