This is my first year on the wrestling team, and I'm a freshman. There's this guy I wrestle all the time who got impetigo, and because of that we did a skin check before practice. I found out I had it on my knee, and I can't wrestle until wednesday when I see the doctor. We have a meet on wednesday, and since I won't weigh in on tuesday, I can't wrestle. Can I still go to BJJ tomorrow if I cover it up and wear my gi pants? I'm so bored, because since I started wrestling, that's all I've been doing, and now I feel like I'm not doing anything.

Not only no but hell no, dont go till it clears up. don't be selfish it doesn't take long to clear up anyway. You saw how easily you got it from your team mate why knowingly spread it to more team mates. Dick move if you as me. Plus someone in your bjj class may not fight off staph well and it may screw them up for a long time.

Ok, I'm not going. I didn't know it was staph, I thought it was just a skin infection.

impetigo is a honey crusted skin lesion caused by staph aureus...

Just FYI, if you have any skin infections please don't wrestle, bjj, or anything that involves human contact. Whether it's herpes, ring worm, impetigo, etc. It should be logical but seriously, don't even consider it.

There will be people who think nothing of it and still train but it fucks up others, the other guy came and trained and now you have it. Don't know if you have a baby brother or sister but try to stay away from them too. Also go to a doctor, when he prescribes anything continue to take it for a few more days after it looks like it cleared up.

Should I still go to school? I feel fine, but just checking.

And I scheduled a doctor appointment for wednesday.

Call the doctor and tell him you have impetigo. There is a good chance he will give you the script right away for the necessary antibiotic cream.

I don't see a good doctor doing this.

there are so many skin infections that look similar that he would be irresponsible for putting you on a drug for something that he hasn't seen with his own eyes

Yes, you can go to school. Yes, you should clean and bandage it several times a day (even before you see the doctor). No, you can't do bjj or wrestle until your doctor says it is no longer contagious (probably several days after starting treatment). Yes, you can and should go for runs, do push-ups/pull-ups etc to get some exercise and stay conditioned.

Used to get impetigo a decent amount back in school from wrestling/grappling generally right outside my nostrils, was very annoying to say the least.

I just did a Herschel Walker workout today. I feel slightly less slacker-ish.

There you go. Assuming you get to the doctor Wednesday and start taking the prescribed treatment that day, you should be good to go by Monday (MAYBE even the weekend). No guarantees of course because there are actually a few kinds of impetigo, but if it's a fairly normal/mild case, then you shouldn't have to miss too much time. Just do your best to keep it clean and to stay in shape.

The blisters healed up, but I have an itchy rash on my neck now. I'm still out of BJJ, most likely until Thursday.
