It's a shame, and yes, he retired too soon to be in the GOAT convo. But I understand his position. He was in a very tough spot. Making 155 was literally killing him, but moving up and defeating Usman was simply not going to happen, and they're also close friends. Better to leave lw to Makhachev and ww to Usman, two fellow Muslim grapplers.

What do you guys think his career path should've been? Between his inability to safely cut weight (especially without his father's guidance) and the implausibility of a title run at ww, what was he supposed to do other than retire?

He went out on top, on his own terms, and seems to have a life outside the sport / long-term plans. It's a rare feat that should be commended instead of scrutinized. He left his fans wanting more instead of dragging things out, as is too often the case in the sport.

If Shane Burgos can make 145, I'm sure Khabib could have made 155 if changed some stuff around. Ppl used to say Aldo was too big for 145.... then he got a nutrionist..now look
I want to say you're right, but everyone is different and has different tolerances. When he got on the scale against Gaethje he looked like a ghost and could barely stand. And we all remember the controversy that ensued with the guy doing the scale.

Imagine being this stupid

He and his dad both said pretty plainly several years ago that the plan all along, and the best testament to Abdulmanap's coaching would be for Khabib to become a dominant champion, then retire as champ and Islam becomes champ after.

He actually did what Conor said he wanted to do; take over, get rich and retire young and healthy. Khabib did just that, Conor stayed around until he became a laughing stock getting choked out, then KO'd, then breaking his own leg and is now throwing drinks at Vanilla Ice and nearly falling over doing it.

Too many folks look and like to pick Fighters apart... I understand the merits of P4P and GoAT (well One of). Man has tons of accolades regardless of what category folks want ta niche em into.

Do I wish he fought on? Sure, but it's his life, family, and frame of mind... No one else's opinion really matters.

I agree with most of that except there's footage I saw of Abdulmanap saying if he doesn't fight GSP then he should fight whoever the ww champ is.
