You'd think that a character who's a super genius hero, but also arrogant and difficult to deal with, would be right up Downey's alley.

But I just watched both of his Sherlock Holmes movies and came away underwhelmed by his performance.

He's not terrible, but he's not great either. I don't know if it's because his British accent comes off as inauthentic, or perhaps Cumberbatch was so perfect that Downey can't help but pale in comparison.

But for some reason I just found myself wishing another actor was playing that part.

I think it was more those movies sucked than anything else

No 1st was good.

Swap Cumberbatch for Rdj (had his own Holmes ahow but it was not great - not his fault. RDJ is great but yeah wrong role

Are you saying the Sherlock series starring Benedict Cumberbatch wasn't great?

I thought it was excellent

I think Robert Downey Jr. fits the part, but Cumberbatch is the ideal Sherlock Holmes. Well Sherlock the show was just too good.

When was RDJ Sherlock Holmes?

I thought it was a little slow an dragged. I thought Cumberbatch is rhe perfect Holmes but wish it was paced better.

Disagree, thought he was great in both films and his chemistry with Jude Law (also great in them) is perfect. I hope they make a third film.

There's only one Sherlock Holmes and his name was Jeremy Brett. After binging the series a couple of years ago, I can't even watch those movies now.

Every time he spoke it pulled me out of the movie. He's a great actor (I recommend Kiss Kiss Bang Bang to every person I talk movies with), but his attempts at a British accent were too distracting.

i thought he was perfect for the role and enjoyed both movies.

maybe it helped that i havent watched a lot of marvel or his other works.

I thought he was good enough to play the role. Would've liked to have seen a 3rd movie but I think either RDJ's price has become too high or he's been too busy. Fun movies but they weren't exactly raking in the dough like the Marvel movies do or captivating the critics like Oppenheimer did.

Yes and no. They weren't exactly conventional SH flicks, and Downey was fine in that universe. The movies themselves were pretty weak, though, which will rub off on the star a bit, but I think overall it's that Guy Ritchie's style fit in here, about as well it did with King Arthur.
