I'm looking for some suggestions for lightweight gi's. I'm just starting to train in bjj and judo, in good shape/condition but regardless of any exercise I sweat profusely. To quote Kevin James I break a sweat just peeling an orange.

I've seen some great reviews on Padilla and Son's light weight, and have found 1 review on their ultra light weight. But haven't found a thread or review that ranks numerous options.

I bought a ring 2 cage gi during their black friday sale and find it too hot.

If fit makes a difference - I'm a stocky build 5'9" 205#, 32" waist, barrel chest and short legs 30" inseam.

Thanks

Gah!

Those were my exact measurements a few months back.

A small cut and i'm back @ 195 where im comfy ..

anywho it's difficult to say what is a " cool " gi and im guessing you mean one that stays relatively fresh under the collar.

Do you wear a rashguard?

Drip sweat when doing warmups? And are you taking a sweat bath by the time you drill?

If you answered YES to any of these questions i can only give you my opinion on the subject ( because i too sweat like a pig about to be turned into bacon ) and the absolutely coolest gi for me personally is the Predator by Black Eagle .

Next coolest is the KINGZ due to the absolutely lightweight material .

The reason why IMO the Predator feels the coolest because it's the roomiest in the pants and the Pearl weave is light and " airy " .

The KINGZ feels cool because it is lightweight and breathable , with a very light feel to it , the heat dissipates quickly ( opinion ) .

Others may chime in with other brands too , so take your pick :)

Vulcan Ultra Light. Won't break the bank...

Heard the fit on the Ultra Light was junk, some say comparable to the Bad Boy Single Weave fit .

I'll see if i can find some reviews on it ( not trashing the Vulkan Light, just saying what i read )

From the BJJHQ website about the Vulkan Ultra Light they are currently selling

Unfortunately, BJJ HQ does not stand behind the products they sell.

If there is a quality issue with a product you have purchased from them they simply tell you to take it up with the manufacturer.

Not sure if they mean about the Vulkan itself or BJJHQ.

I did hear the fit was snug but it was pre shrunk and doesn't shrink much according to budovideos...

Thanks for the quick info. Yes, I wear a rash guard b/c when I don't people wind up grabbing handfulls of chest hair along with the gi.

Sweat drips off me during the warmups - check. And I'm trying to prevent drowning my training partners during drills/rolls.

Any personal experience w/the P&S?

I recently picked up an On The Mat made of rip stop material just like gi pants. It is very cool due to the material thinness. I don't know how well it will hold up yet as I've only been wearing it for about 3 months now. But I will say that I am 6' and 225# and I have had several of the big guys (6'-6" & 320+#) try to rip it off of me in both Judo and BJJ practice and it shows no wear as of yet.

I have the P&S lightweight, as a 5'6" female who does not sweat a ton. Built like a tank, check. Really warm in summer/warmer months, also check. I like it best for winter for me.

I also have the female Predatora, and I second it's lightness. It is much, much lighter, between the pearl weave jacket and the ripstop pants.

I am built very similarly to you. Rashguards are normally too thick for me, I wear underarmor under my gis. Of the 7 I've owned/still own, the coolest are in order:

1: Gorilla Fight Gear Hitman (its ripstop, not super thick)
Tie for #2 Ground Control/Shoyoroll (while they are weave and not ripstop, they are both very light, which seems to be cooler to me)

I had an issue with a rash guard I purchased from BJJHQ. They contacted the manufacture and took care of the issue with great customer service.

Aaron, their owner, is fantastic. I support him by buying from him every chance I get.

I have both P&S Lightweight and Ultra-light gis. For your build I would highly recommend the A3. You might have to shrink it a bit. For your sweating problem why don't you take 2 gi tops to your class.

2nd gi top - great suggestion that I should have thought of. In my other training I change shirts during class so I don't know why I didn't think of this. On the other hand I'm also looking for a lighter weight gi in general - maybe 2!

I checked out your review site and appreciate all the info that's there. But I found it difficult to compare the gi reviews because they don't follow a common review methodology and in some cases are lacking depth. Are you giving any thought into doing reviews that go into more depth with specifics about fit, construction, unique features etc?

You forgot to post this part:

Answer from customer service contradicts this defective product policy.

We cannot accept returns once an item is washed. Since we shipped the correct item, your follow-up would be with the manufacturer (considering that if there is a defect, it's a manufacturer's defect).

The guy washed the gi in vinegar and now wants to return it. BJJHQ and MMAHQ is fantastic and the customer service is second to none. This guy just made a booboo and wants someone else to pay for it.

My friend in Hawaii has a Kauai Kimonos Ripstop gi. He loves it.

I like the vulkan ultra light I was that size before and it was my first gi, still sweated a lot though. And to today I lost about 30lbs and I still sweat a lot. Try the koral light and the fuji summer gi.

Vulcan Ultra light & Gameness Air gi are the lightest. Draw back on the vulcan is that it stretches and sometimes you may get worried that it will rip.

The Fuji Summer lite is a very choice choice that can also be used all around. It's a very nice clean looking gi

The lite gi with the best collar imo is the Koral lite. They are also cut the fullest.

On sale Fuji Light Summer Bjj Kimono- $89.99

On sale Gameness Air Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Bjj Gi - $89.99

On sale White Koral Light Bjj Jiu-jitsu Kimono - $138.99
