I am an orthodox so I have my left leg forward and I find it that for me its easy to throw jabs and left hooks but whenever I want to throw a right hook I get off balance because the right side is the back leg and if there is no target then it puts me off-balance, Same with the right uppercut

Does anyone have the same problem???

Edit: I will talk to my coach tomorrow and update the thread

Off balance in what way? Sounds like your stance is wrong. Do you have your feet far enough apart?

If I understand correctly it sounds like your stance is a bit to side on.

Well the stance is correct the punches are fine its just in boxing you open up with punches as oppose to kick boxing your not squared up.

But basically the right side which is the back leg (since the left side is forward) doesn't get get enough action. In terms of I become reliant on the jab left hook and the straight punch.

I will look in to this with my coach basically sitting down on the right side is difficult which would be the back leg (orthodox)

Its hard to get a visual with writing I will see if I can find a video but just wanted to see if this is a common problem since bunch of my sparring partners have a hard time opening up with there punches

maybe your stance isnt wide enough? Without seeing you punch, I wouldn't know to be honest.

I hardly throw right hooks either unless I have my opponent against the ropes and am really close. I'm normally more square on when I throw them too. I can't undertsand why it's hard to throw your right uppercut though.

lol at the responses. Dude don't worry about it. If you're talking about boxing, you're not SUPPOSED to be landing right hooks and uppercuts a lot unless you are just throwing bombs or something.

I only catch short guys with right uppercuts, or guys that slip inside/bob under my jab. Otherwise it's a seldom used technique.

What you can start experimenting with is throwing the right hook/uppercut off your jab, but ONLY WHEN THE JAB LANDS. If you land a jab and the guy doesn't move back, you can be assured that you will land the uppercut/hook if you either:
- step in with it
- he steps in and you just let it fly (more common against an aggressive guy)

The hard part of the technique is deciding whether to step in or not - uppercut is a short range technique so it's easy to jam yourself
