I went to a Mexican eatery and picked up some Mexican baked goods. I got one cookie, another one with brown sugar swirls around it and a pink bread/cake with a rocky bumpy exterior.

Why is it soooo dry? Is it supposed to be that dry? It's like eating a hard sweet popeyes biscuit. Even the cookie is dry. Am I supposed to heat it up before eating it? What am I doing wrong? Am I just used to shitty trans fats that makes everything soft? Am I supposed to get used to it? Help me understand Mexican baked goods. Give recommendations to what type is pastry is good. Thank you

Edit: Brown swirl one was really bad. I almost considered committing a war crime by only eating the outside. I just left it alone after two bites. Pink one was tolerable once I heated it and paired it with a hot drink.

I believe you are supposed to dip that in either Dos Equis or tequila to moist that up

I get it. Also the candy is always covered in chili powder. Yet, their "real food" is still bomb as hell, and I'll be enjoying them on Cinco De Mayo. Shout out to Don Ponchos, my local Mexican Grocery store, I'll be there tomorrow for 4 chicken, on corn, Mexican style tacos.

I refuse to believe a country that has S tier food like tacos can have pastries that are mid. You might be on to something though. The chips and candy are weird too. Elote is alright even though it’s Mayo and corn.

You probably got some pan on the stale side. It shouldn't be as dry as the way you described. There's a Mexican bakery a block from me that makes a ton of delicious items. Their stuff is never dry, depending on what you get, most items are super moist and really tasty. Great donuts and fruit turnovers/empanadas.

Love it, dynamite with coffee too.

Maybe it was sitting out for a while. Usually in the mornings soon after they first open they'll have the fresh bread coming out. And a lot of it is meant to be had with coffee.

It shouldn't be dry. Not like a cracker or something. It isn't moist like a donut, but it shouldn't have you gagging. Was the bakery you went to any good? As in, good reviews, ratings, etc?

Maybe it's a hot weather thing. Every time I've been to Greece their supermarkets have a giant aisle that looks like this.

Some are nice, some are nasty. The one thing they have in common is they're all dryer than the sands of Arabia.

I'll make this a War Room thread so fast, your head will be spinning!!!!
War room posters don’t eat other people’s bread! I am going to try out another bakery. It’s dry again then I will bow out from Mexican baked foods and chalk it up to it looks good but don’t eat.

It’s a Mexican spot. I seen tons of brown folks buy bread there. You get your thongs and you choose what you want from these cabinets. I even get the authentic experience of being overcharged slightly because I know my numbers.

I bought churros from there before and it’s completely fine. I also got donuts there before it’s just a no go. I just chalked it up to donuts wasn’t their thing.

I got it with this hot chocolate they are selling. It’s not American hot chocolate. I just see people lining up for it and I point at it,

Heres some of my favorites
